It looks like the old Arizona place is now going to be Carmelita's of Hoboken (Mexican). I used to live in Hoboken but I don't remember Carmelita's. Anyway, I have my hopes set on having excellent Mexican food at least once a week! Best of luck to the new owners. Anyone know when the grand opening will be? |

Carmelita's was that place on Washington - east side of the street I think between 1st and 2nd. Really tiny place - mostly take out and maybe a table or two. It's been there for at least 6 or 7 years - I know some who loved it, but I never thought it was that great. Keep our fingers crossed. |

Carmelita's was the place with the sign outside saying "so authentic, you'll think twice about drinking the water!" |

Right! I remember now. I was never too fond of the food either, but it was better than Arizona's. I seem to recall that the owner was a bit of a character. |

The character you speak of is a Mexican-American named Carlos. His place, Carmelita's, was and still is on Washington St. It has five tables and a bustling business. Speaking negatively about a new business in town is no way to support our community. |

The taste will be in the pudding, I mean flan! Let's give it a chance. Could be just the change of cook from one location to another would make a big difference. So much of the success or failure in this business is about who is running the kitchen. Bacata |

Of course the previous post should have read "the PROOF will be in the pudding...." Sorry, taste buds just took over the typing briefly. Bacata |

Does it look like they'll be open soon? And if they're the same Carmelita's as in Hoboken, would we expect them to deliver? |

You mean you guys still have money to eat out? You gotta be getting tax reductions!! Kidding aside, any of you former Brooklynites ever go to Old Mexico on Montague St. in Brooklyn Heights? The best Mexican food outside of S. Texas and San Diego. |

Hey Mangoshoes, lighten up! I was not speaking negatively about the new business in town. I was giving my opinion about a business in Hoboken. Gimmeabreak! |

They might want to rethink that catch phase though. Something about food so authentically Mexican you won't want to drink the water. Yuck! |

Hey sully...seems to me when you call somebody a character you are being negative...if i'm wrong, sorry...still my man or woman, while you're entitled to your opinion, new businesses don't need disparaging comments when they still haven't open their doors... i realize that you are talking about the Hoboken restaurant, however, it's not hard to make the connection...later... |

Mangoshoes, calling someone a character is not necessarily a negative comment. In fact, it is commonly used to describe close friends or family members who are well-loved. Sully's comments about the food were for a restaurant in Hoboken. His/her comments were not negative regarding the unopened restaurant, as they were not about this restaurant. |

As a former Hobokenite, I was very pleased to see the familiar face of this "character" Carlos bringing his well tested goods to town. He told me he will have delivery, and you won't have to spend a fortune or have a major meal if you want to get something to eat. I applaud and support any business that opens in our little town that isn't a clone, duplicate, chain, or of a useless nature. Viva Carmelitas! |

No. He's got some reliable people running the show there that don't need him breathing down their necks. He will just be making a celebrity appearance there once and a while to sign tacos and tell bad jokes. He lives closer to us, and will be based here. He is a real "people person" aka "character" and wants the restaurant to be people friendly, with high chairs for tots, etc... |
