Unfortunately, that ad, Nohero, was so tasteless it would make me vote for George.

Wow. That was awful, and combined with Hilary's latest remark that Hindu people are all gas station attendants, as well as all these buffoons in the democratic party, I am seriously considering changing my party registration. Enough is enough.

I thought it was funny. And while it is decidedly anti-Bush, it satirizes political ads in general.

I thought it was funny too. Didn't anyone else think the last 10 seconds were a parody of political attack ads, or did you actually think those were meant as real criticisms of Bush?

I just didn't think it was funny. I don't like Clinton, but if the same ad was applied to him, I would think it was just as bad. Politics suck.

it's funny a third time too.

The ominous music, the narration, the tight close up on his eyes, the unflattering photos, and then the over-the-top character assasination as a closer.

It's a only an exaggeration of the tactics used by hack political advertisers everywhere.

 mem,
I certainly understand if the mention of 9/11 is upsetting to you.

apparently however, you think I'm callous because the mention of 9/11 (even if it's not the point of the ad) wasn't entirely distracting to me. I'm sorry if you believe that.

WO'B and others - duh with the music, narration, etc, but it's just potty humor. Naughty words passing for humor just doesn't do it for me. It reminds me of Dan Ackroyd's "Jane, you ignorant slut...", but that was funny.

Yes, the point was that it satirized those "serious" attack ads.

Such as, the actual ad used against former Senator Max Cleland (decorated Viet Nam vet), associating him with Bin Laden just because Senator Cleland disagreed with some aspects of the Homeland Security bill. That was genuinely "tasteless".

Or, the actual ad which has been running (with the requisite ominous music and pictures moving across the screen) which solemnly states: "Some are now attacking the President for attacking the terrorists." In other words, if you disagree with the President, you're pro-terrorist. That was genuinely "tasteless".

There will in all likelihood be more of such ads, actually broadcast in the upcoming campaign. The satire which we're talking about is right on the money.

Here is a joke just sent to me from a buddy(author unknown).

How do you tell the difference between Liberals, Conservatives and
 Southerners? Pose the following question:

You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small
children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around
 the
corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and
 charges.

You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere
seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

 Liberal Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man
look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire
him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the
kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like
a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about
this situation? Does the Glock have an appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this
send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just
 killing me?

Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound
me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away
 while
he was stabbing me? Should I call 911?
Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and
weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage
such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some
friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.

 Conservative Answer:

 BANG!

 Southerner's Answer :

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
 click... (sounds of reloading).

Wife: "Hon, he looks like he's still moving, whadda y'all kids think?"
Son: "Mama's right Daddy, I saw it, too." BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
 BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

 click.

Daughter: "Nice group, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?"
The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today..FDR..

I'm just glad Nohero is showing his true colors instead of pretending to be the high-minded and fair thinking centrist of MOL instead of the Bush/Republican hater he really is. I wonder how funny and clever everyone would think if it was about Dean or Clinton. Don't even bother...

 lumpyhead --
fwiw, if someone did a clever parody of anti-Dean attack ads, I'd find it funny. Altough it's hard to parody the real Repulican ads (like the ones running against Dean in Iowa). Actually, come to think of it, some of the real Republican ads are pretty funny. Like the one Nohero mentions ("some are now attacking the president..."). That one's a riot.

 ffof,
although over-analyzing humor takes all the fun out, I'd just like to add that if the voiceover was merely "silly," it would have lost all its satirical bite. the fact is, real political ads are so over-the-top and nasty, that to parody them, you have to go pretty far.

 but again - whatever.

The purpose of satire is to make people uncomfortable. The purpose of satire is to attack. To accomplish this, satire often engages in questionable language.
