But perhaps too little too late, for Edwards. The rush of prominent Democrats to back the perceived front runner prior to any primary votes will make it hard for them to back off if Dean starts to flounder. Could be similar to the way Bush and the Republican hierarchy aced out McCain's potentially strong challenge. My guess is Edwards might be Dean's running mate when this is all over--Dean might even reach for that with rumors or more overtly prior to South Carolina, appear to unify the party and bring in a southerner to cover his flank from Clarke.

Edwards gaining momentum in polls...

quote:

With three campaigning days left before Monday's caucuses, polls indicated that the Iowa race has tightened into a statistical four-way tie between Howard Dean, Dick Gephardt, John Edwards and John Kerry.

The only ticket that could possibly win is Kerry/Edwards.

Edwards doesn't have to win, only place or show to be in it for real.

I watched Chris Matthews interview him on Hardball last night and I was impressed. While I hate negligence lawyers like the plague (a genetic thing), he handled himself very well and emphazied his committment to run a clean campaign, at least in the primaries. Very impressive, even if he looks about 25 (he is 50).

Another news show indicated that he is just about everyone in Iowas second choice, which leads to some interesting scenarios if the convention ends up deadlocked or if he is willing to take the VP nomination with Kerry or Clark at the top of the ticket.

I have also been impressed with Kerry, whose views may be a little far left for me. He has loosened up a lot; cracking jokes, a snowball fight with reporters, flying the campaign helicopter. He might turn out to be more than an ad for The Hair Club for Men (yeah I am jealous).

It's hard to poll accurately in a caucus state, plus all those undecided votes make it all pretty iffy. Seems like Iowa is up in the air!

Unfortunately for Dean, all those computer geeks are afraid to go outside.

The two largest Wisconsin papers also backed Edwards and effectively helped put Dean out of the picture.

What is it the media sees in Edwards that they don't see in Kerry?

And where do the Deanie Baby votes go? To an Old School Massachussetts liberal?
