We have selected wallpaper patterns and a contractor to do the work and now we need to place a fairly sizable order. Any recommendations on places to go to for this and what, if any, discounts from list prices are offered? |

You can try Fabulous Wallcoverings on Main Street in West Orange. I thought their prices were reasonable. You can also check Home Depot. They seem to have everything. I'm not sure about their prices though. Good Luck! |

Since you know which wallpaper patterns you want, get the stock numbers and try abwf.com (American Blind and Wallpaper Factory). Get their prices and compare before placing your order elsewhere, so that you know how much of a discount you'd actually get. I haven't ordered Wallpaper from Home Depot, but I did hear that their prices were discounted. Please report back here with your findings, since I'll be in the same boat in May. Thanks! |

Where did you find what patterns you wanted to order? Just a philosophical thought, but if you went to a wallpaper store and used their books (which the dealer has to buy), are you now planning to order from somebody who couldn't offer you that service in order to save a few bucks? This is how local service establishments get put out of business. |

I'm only suggesting using abwf.com as a basis for determining the best price. If you know that a store carries wallpaper at $15/roll and abwf.com has it for $10/roll, you have some information which may help you in negotiating price. Or, you might be able to determine if you were getting a good discount, since I remember that abwf.com gives the list price as well as the discounted price. If you felt you wanted to buy directly from abwf.com, you could do so, but I'm only suggesting them as a price comparison, not as a retailer. |

At various times we have studied the books at both Newark Paint & Wallpaper (on Springfield Ave in Irvington) and Ricciardi in Maplewood. We have also ordered wallpaper from both places at full list price in the past, so we don't feel guilty about browsing either of their libraries. Most recently we had been at Ricciardi and after I had gotten pricing of almost 50% off list from abwf.com (with free shipping) and had Fabulous Wallcoverings offer to match that for their price delivered to the store, I went back to Ricciardi but they were not able to do better than 30%. I would have preferred to do business locally and would have paid some premium for that, but felt that was too big a price difference on a large order, especially since Fabulous is a real store and fairly nearby. I was not very comfortable with the "hard sell" tactics of the phone operator at abwf, even though it appeared that they would even go a bit lower than the first quote, but as Njjoseph says, it did provide a good start for negotiations. By the way, the other place I checked was Home Depot whose discount was 35%. If it was "just a few bucks", I wouldn't have bothered even shopping around. Incidently, abwf.com has a number of the books online, although that is less satisfying than looking at the real thing. |

Fabulous Wallcoverings is GREAT!! They also have a wonderful selection of fabrics. I've ordered from them about a dozen times and if I need to reorder the same fabric from, say, 18 months ago, they'll search their records for it. They also have done some simple work for me... seat covers, valances. Their work is top notch, priced right, and done quickly. I have used Terminal Mill Ends, Star Upholstery in Orange, and Ultimate on Valley St in S.Orange. Fabulous is the fastest. |

Just a followup on "Fabulous is the fastest" - I placed that order on Tuesday and had a phone message yesterday (Friday) that my order is in. |
