I’ll bet suicide hotlines all over the country were flooded with distraught Deanie babies as Senator John Kerry finished first in Iowa, followed by multi-millionaire trial lawyer John Edwards. Dean, once the front runner, finished third. So if you think Dean was angry before, let’s see what he’s gonna be like now.

Can Dean possibly follow through on his treat to have his followers avoid the election? Which followers; both of them? Cause at this rate that’s all he’ll have left come November.

Over the next week we're going to find out how strong the former general ... you know, the one who was fired because of integrity and character issues ... is in New Hampshire. The better Clark looks, the more Bill and Hillary will start to sweat. At what point will they pull the plug on their stalking horse?

I'm not feeling particularly cocky here. My absolute, number-one issue in this campaign is our security. We are in the middle of another World War, a war against Islamic terrorism. Domestic issues remain important, but all fall behind the war on terrorism. It is insanity to entrust our national security to a Democrat, but there are many people in this nation who put their own access to taxpayer funds and government programs far above any concerns they have about terrorism.

You'll hear a lot of the Democratic candidates this year rail against the deficit, as if somehow this extra government spending needs to be "paid for" with more of your tax dollars. Wrong...what we need is for the politicians to stop spending so much in the first place. It really is that simple. Of course, it will never happen, because people are ignorant and politicians will continue to buy their votes with government programs.

Remind me what the difference is between Republicans and Democrats? Oh yeah, tax cuts and the war on terrorism. That's right.

When November comes, just ask yourself: WWOVF? Who would Osama Vote For? It's a question worth asking.

Gee Duncan, I must admit that you're right on point there. It may take me a while to get accustomed to the new Soapbox.

Thanks, you always remind me of the difference between a Harley and a Hoover?

Don,

The better question is WWBB? Who will beat Bush?

Most of us are relieved that Dean & Gephardt got beat since they were the least likely to win. Now, we just need to wait for Reverand Al & Dennis K to drop out & we'll have some real contenders out there.

Dave...feel free to move this thread

Don sez It is insanity to entrust our national security to a Democrat. How'd that old song from The Wizard of Oz go, "If I only had a ..."?

tee hee..

The liberals all of a sudden hate Dean???....Some of you people are soooooo predictable. He was unlikely to win???? Gee, that says a great deal for Al Gore who you people want to be President sooooo bad. I guess Al Gore also knew Dean had no chance, that's why he endorsed him.

What next????

I'll tell you what next. Kerry will get the nod, Edwards will be the V.P candidate and Clark will be promised the Sec of State job..

That should be a strong ticket, but not strong enough.

Because as every American now realizes it's going to be....

I wouldn’t write Dean’s obituary quite yet. He still has a lot of money, a strong organization and plenty of zealous supporters. Don’t get me wrong, he got whacked in Iowa, but he’s still a player unless and until he loses out in New Hampshire.

To me, the big loser at this point is Clark. He’s been strutting around New Hampshire claiming it’s a two way race between himself and Dean. But now he’s got a couple of new mules kicking in his stall. Having skipped Iowa, Clark obviously needs to very strong showing in New Hampshire. At this point I’m not sure second place will cut it for Clark; that would probably depend on who came in first.

The big winner, of course, is Edwards. He doesn’t have to do diddley in New Hampshire because the expectations for him were always low, and because a week later is the South Carolina primary, where he should be able to shine.

Kerry is also on solid ground now. Did you see his victory speech last night? He was FIRED UP!!! If he can maintain that level of intensity, voters will keep taking him seriously. I can see three or four players in the mix for several weeks to come. This is finally getting interesting.

Bottomline:

You are absolutely right about Dean. The big wigs who endorsed him now either will turn up the heat to make sure they don't look bad, or run for cover. If Dean does not win big in NH--his own backyard--he is through.

I think NH is more key for Edwards than for Kerry. Kerry is expected to do well in his neighboring state. But if Edwards wins or places a strong second, he will show that he plays well in the Northeast and Midwest--we already expect him to do well in the South. NH will tell if Edwards has legs.

Clark is still an untested wildcard.

Mayhew, since you support no individual candidate, do you automatically vote along party lines?

In an attempt to answer the question WWBB? (Who will beat Bush?) No one person, other than Bush himself, can beat Bush. Yes, a conserted effort to unite the Democratic party under one true leader stands a chance. But, you will need to get back those Democrats who favor Bush.

The number-one issue in this campaign is our security. If you are anti-war, recognize that Edwards and Kerry each supported the war effort and cast their votes in favor. Kerry has since wavered. The voters in Iowa spoke volumes about who they favor. Why do you think they chose Kerry and Edwards?

Perhaps you can again remind me what the difference is between Republicans and Democrats? Oh yeah, tax cuts and the war on terrorism. Well one out of two isn't bad.

Who would Osama vote for? Isn't that just a tad simplistic?

Osama would vote for George A.W.O.L. Bush, one of America's least effective Presidents in managing foreign affairs.

He definitely wouldn't vote for Wesley Clark, who'd work to unite our NATO allies to help hunt him down, along with the rest of al Qaeda. He'd prefer Bush, who'd continue to gratuitously piss off the rest of the world so we'd have to go it alone.

You guys are really discussing for whom Osama would vote! LOL.

I'll tell you who he would vote for. Joe Lieberman, that's who! Then he could say to all his lunatic supporters "See, I told you that the Jews run America".

Oh yeah.....Osama, did you hear? NATO is really, REALLY mad at you and they're coming for you. And Osama is just going to tremble and maybe even surrender right away. Please.

Come on. NATO for all intents and purposes IS the United States and Britain. France has one half-working aircraft carrier. NATO (leaving aside US and UK forces) can't even order lunch in Afghanistan. How many more times do you have to read "calls went out NATO to beef up operations in Afghanistan" in the papers. NATO is running Afghanistan, with the UN. Kind of like Kosovo now. Heavylifting in Afghanistan is being handled by the US and the Brits because they're the only ones that can.

Is this all new to you?

The last I checked the NATO commander in Afghanistan was a German. A friends son in the 10th Mountain had his butt saved by Dutch f-16s a year or so ago.

But why interupt a good rant. :-)
