Tried to connect twice and got a "sorry" message. Seems very slow. What did I do wrong? Do we use our current "nickname", a new one? |

I can't connect today either. Must be trouble with the IRC server? Worked great last night. |

Is this a test? Is the button hidden somewhere in that grey box, and we need to click away until we find it? I look forward to trying this another time -- let us know when its up and running. |

I think I just got into the chat room. Only one other appeared to be in there with me. The secret button is on the top ruler, first button on the left. Just the same, I entered but got no response. I only said "hello"...nothing sarcastic, cynical or off-color! Definitely nothing controversial. What does this mean????? Is there no future in 'chat'! |

Interalia, glad to see you finally got thru. Saw Dytunk there, too. A few notes about the chat feature: it's on a shared IRC server, so its availability of it may vary from time to time. The other chat rooms are not part of MOL and we don't know what happens there. It's great to see a few people are finding it useful. |

Just tried to enter the chat room and got a timed out message. Hope to try it again later. Since the server is shared, is there a best time to try? |

Couldn't get into the chat room. Timed out as well...then threw me right off MOL. Guess there are glitches or is this the way it is? |

The chatroom is being served through a third party site, I have another solution that I will try to implement tonight. I haven't been able to log into the present chatroom tonight either. Jamie |

I tried to log into the chat room thru MSN.com but couldn't find our site. Too many sites to go thru, no apparent search engine. |

Dave - You didn't create a "never" option for your new poll/survey about the chat room! |

I'm with Ffof on this one. A "chat room" might be what some folks are looking for, but I think that the message board exchanges of ideas are better. |

You can still exchange ideas on the board, but use the chat room for other topics...games, etc. |

What about scheduled chats: discussions with local candidates on their platforms, tc members about pending votes, etc? You really can't do that well on a message board. |

Thought I'd post to this topic, as Joancrystal has brought up something here that is being advocated by Democratic primary candidate Scott Kisch on his Web site: weekly chats with constituents. Good or bad? What does it add beyond the face-to-face meeting at Town Hall? |

I favor discussions on the board over chats. Chats are limited to those who (a) know in advance that the chat is going to take place and (b) are available to log on then. It is a lot harder to follow discussions in chat when everyone is "talking" at once that it is on a discussion board where comments can be viewed as they appear and compared. Discussions also provide time to pause and reflect before jumping in with a comment or question. The discussion format may also be easier for the candidates who could visit the board when a brief period of time opens up rather than being tied to a chat that goes on for longer than planned. Finally, there is the advantage of a reviewable record prior to response for both the candidates and the voters. |
