Anyone else find the News-Record letter, signed "South Orange Firefighters", extremely disturbing? What the aol is this town thinking? I think the fire department has had it rough enough in the past year, and doesn't need more downsizing and morale problems. Why are South Orange officials so silent on this board? What are they afraid of???? |

The letter sounds like they are trying to negotiate a new contract. Did you call any of the officials to find out what they say? |

Actually, they've been without a contract since Dec. 31, 1999. From what I understand, the department was supposed to hire recruits to replace some retirees, but the village is dragging its feet. I find it frightening that the village allows this situation to continue deteriorating, especially in light of the fatalities in 2000. |

Another firefighter hurt, Sunday night, across from Seton Hall. But they're only trying to negotiate their contract, right? It'll never happen to you, right? |
