Anybody out there involved in any of the local theater groups in our towns? It was a big hobby for me throughout high school and college and (though it's been eons) I'd like to get back into it. What are the different groups? I have heard of the Strollers and What Exit? -- what are the groups in South Orange? Are these mainly professional (i.e., Equity) or can local yokels audition? Can anyone give me contact info? I would like to get involved in any way, so all info would be very appreciated. Thanks. |

I'm involved with Strollers, which is an amateur group in Maplewood. We meet first Wednesday of the month at the Burgdorff center. If you are interested in getting involved, there's a show (Marvin's Room) going up in two weeks, and we've just cast the last show of the season (Arms and The Man). Next fall Pirates of Penzance will go up in November, and we will be auditioning in late August or early September. We can always use help on technical stuff if you'd like to get involved! It's a lot of fun and a nice group of folks. Local yokels can and do audition, in fact that's how I got involved. see http://www.thestrollers.org for info, or call me. What Exit? is a professional group that Bev Sheehan runs. They're finishing a run at the Burgdorff this weekend (i think there's a matinee tomorrow to close the run). I think they are Equity only but I am not 100% sure of that. There's a group in SO but I don't know a thing about them, sorry... |

I just went to the What Exit? show called "Fast Girls" today. It was really good! I wasn't aware of the quality and professionalism of the company, and was really quite impressed |
