That reminds me of another tactical error by the local Republican Party in Maplewood. Over the last three years, the Democrats have had contested primary elections, where both camps fanned out registering voters, and more importantly, converting the unaffiliated voter to Democrats. This intramural struggle has ultimately helped strengthen the Democratic Party in town. The Republicans sit back and watch, then claim "victories" in the uncontested primary, then try to beat the stronger of the two Democratic candidates in November. Without much success. Well, they claim victories in the debates too. I suppose no self-respecting Republican would want to run off GWB's line this year, so again, the Dems fight the local battle while the Rep's hope for a miracle in November.

If everyone that DUMBYA has alienated gets out to vote, we have a real chance of getting this maniac,"OUT IN 4 JUST LIKE HIS PAW". Forget about 2000 and all the shenanigans with hanging chads and the Supreme Court debacle, VOTE. |

See this: http://www.turtlerock.com/RalphDontRun/ In a nutshell, if Ralph Nader hadn't run in 2002, Gore would be president, despite whatever you want to say about the miscounts, recounts, and court's intervention.

Poor Straw. He still fighting the 2000 election. Straw, I don't know how to break this to you, but Gore isn't running and apparently doesn't carry much weight any more. Actually, I find it interesting that the Democratic Party, viewed only a month ago as having going off the left end, is now being taking rather seriously. For example, since Kerry has a real military record, the spotlight is once again on Bush's pseudo-service in the Armed Forces. |

tjohn - I agree with your observation regarding the Democrats' resurrection. It was only a few months ago on this very board that people were crying about GWB's "inevitable" re-election. Now that the polls show Kerry is a viable candidate, everybody jumps on board the band wagon. One would think that Clinton's election in '92 showed us that anything was possible (i.e., an unknown governor from Arkansas beats a sitting president - thanks largely to Ross Perot) |

It certainly looks a lot better for the Democrats now compared to a month ago. We should not get complacent however, since DUMBYA and his extremely connected cronies, will do anything to get re-elected (maybe I'm too much of a cynic but I can envision , DUMBYA pulling Osama Bin Laden out of some cage in Oct. After all he is in bed with OBL's family). Just stay focused and make sure you get everyone you know out to vote. Ignore our Appeciative, fruitful friend and his ilk, they will likely implode on their own bile. |

Bush does have one card to play, though, which is that the Democrat will be forced to promise to raise taxes, and Bush will promise not to. I wonder how this will play out. It worked out very badly for Mondale in 1984. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

Bush has more cards than that; he has not started to campaign yet. By April you will see the republican leadership, and probably a few older retired democrats, all over the county on message as to why the President should be reelected. |

Part of me hopes that Kerry will win just to end Hillary Clinton's presidential aspirations once and for all. I can't understand why anybody would think she's qualified to be president. Kerry has a track record of public office in the Senate. Whether you support him or not, I think most would agree that he's qualified for the job. I realize that I'll be pummeled for criticizing Hillary's credentials, but this is just how I see it. |

I wonder where Hilary's base and Dean's base overlap. Something tells me it may be wide, but shallow. |
