It's not a country inn, but I went to a very nice brunch recently at the Madison Hotel (which is in Convent Station/Morristown). We had a terrific time, the food was good, and the hotel is beautiful. If you wanted to go east, in the city, Sarabeth's is one of the best around.

Willie's Tavern. Very nice brunch for about $18 per person. Great atmosphere.

The Marlboro Inn in Montclair has a very nice Sunday brunch, including shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon, made-to-order omelettes, fresh fruit. I've always enjoyed it, and it's reasonably priced. However, I had a friend who went there in the fall and was disappointed. Maybe others can comment?

If you're looking for a very special brunch and don't mind going into the city, Cafe Botanica at the Essex House has a wonderful brunch that I go to several times a year whenever I have special occasions or out-of-towners. It's about $60/person right now, but the spread is incredible.

Check out the Saddle River Inn. I don't know if they do brunch, but if they do, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

Also, check out The Dining Room at the Short Hills Hilton. I've heard great things about them, but haven't tried them myself. Maybe this weekend.....

The brunch at the Short hills Hilton is great. We went there over the holidays and had a beautiful meal. I second NJJ's recommendation of Cafe Botanica as well - we were married in the Essex House so I have fond memories there.

Rolf's in Warren - (908) 754-5500. They put on a really nice brunch, and the atmosphere is great.

Yes, Madison Hotel is Rod's. 1/2 the price of brunch at the Short Hills Hilton.

I think Cavallo's in Easton has a brunch. If it does, the 1 hour drive would be worth it as the dinners are the most unusual experience in the world. The Hunt Room at The Summit Hotel is also pretty good but rather normal.

Cavallo's is outstanding, some of the best meals I've ever had. I've never had a brunch there, but for dinner it's one of those places where you're there for 3 or 4 hours with course after course of amazing food.

If you're willing to drive an hour, Xaviers in Garrison, NY is absolutely incredible. They have a beautiful Plantation like open air dining room on the golf course at the country club, and an incredible buffet with absolutely everything you can imagine, and waiters bringing many different gourmet dishes around as well. Lots to do and see in that area also.
