Most commuters to the City know that the PATH fare will be going up to $1.50 each way starting on March 25. What many people don't know is that the 20 trip and 40 trip cards are still being sold at a cost of only $1 per trip. The one I purchased today from a machine at WTC is good until the middle of September. This can be a considerable saving. As I understand it, the cost of these cards will be going up to $1.20 per trip but not immediately. Aparently, there is some kind of phase in. |

At, I believe, the last TC meeting there was some talk about the reduction of 15 trains a day due to the construction of another tunnel. I don't recall the starting date - or how long it was to take. Just a heads up for the commuters among us. |

Joan, Are you sure that the $1.00 per trip cards will still work on a per trip basis after the fare increase? I assumed that the machines would just start deducting $1.50 per trip from the card and had been wondering what to do with the left over $.50 or $1.00. TomR |

I asked and they claimed that the cards will work after tomorrow at the old price. (I was concerned that I would be stuck with one dollar left on the card...). |

Article in the star-ledger a couple of days ago said the old cards would be good for six months. |

The star-ledger article actually said that the old cards would be good through August 31, 2001. |

Mtinery: a reduction of 15 trains? do you know if this will affect rush hour or non-peak hours or both? |

Maybe the mayor can fill in the details of the reduction. As I said, the TC discussed it conversationally at a meeting. It was difficult to catch everything. |

New Jersey Transit is planning to make major repairs to one of the two tunnels leading into Hoboken Station. This will have an impact on the number of trains able to enter and leave Hoboken during peak periods. New Jersey Transit maintains a website where current train schedules are posted. Any change in train service to Maplewood should appear on that website as the time for service reduction gets nearer. New schedules should also be available at the train station a few days before the changes take place. |
