John Edwards has been saying recently, "Let's think about it. In a country with our wealth, to have children going to bed hungry!"

Hold on a moment. Where does Edwards get the idea that so many children are going to bed hungry in America?

Do you think anyone will question Edwards about the source for his information? Yeah, right.

Soundbites don't work well with footnotes, but here's one that took all of 3.4 seconds to find. And I agree, the national media should be faulted for not covering poverty issues more often.

Well, the Federal Government reports that about 3.8% of U.S. households have people going hungry, and in most of those households, the adults do without so that the children get enough to eat. Even so, within that group are the 0.6% of households where even the children go hungry.

According to Covenant House, over 9,000 children live on the streets in NYC alone. The shelters house over 16,000 children under 18 right now.

It's time for conservatives to stop their fascination with the unborn, and get off their butts and help the born a little, too.

Walk down the street in NYC for an hour or so, and you will see children begging. What's to question?

Bobk I never said such a thing. I ask that you apologize for implying that I would.

Covenant House, isn't that one of those religous funded organizations that Bush wishes to assist?

No apology, but an explanation. Denying that there are a significant number of hungry children in this country is pretty similar to Marie Antoinette's remark. I think you are in denial.
