updated March 12, 2005 Use of this private message board is a privilege, not a right. Please be responsible and follow a few simple rules of use, which are: + No personal attacks + No shock jocks + No obscenities + No solicitors + No solicitations + No commercial offers other than in "Work" and "Classifieds" + No not reading these rules + No disclosing another poster's identity unless that poster has personally approved it + No hate speech In other words, respond to others how you'd like to be spoken to. Additional Considerations KNOW WHERE YOU ARE WHEN YOU POST Generally speaking, the place with the broadest allowance for vigorous debate are the Soapbox and Education areas. Posts in other areas that are off-topic or board-clutter may be deleted in order to preserve the usefulness of the section to others. If you get into an argument with someone in the Soapbox and carry it over into the Recipe section, it will be deleted. People printing out a recipe don't want to waste ink on unrelated information. MY USERNAME WASN'T APPROVED We review new username applications manually. For this reason, it may take a day or two for them to be activated. Two things may cause your requested username to be denied: 1) it is offensive in some way or 2) it is a business name. Those with user names from a few yers ago that fall into this category are grandfathered in, but going forward we are observing this requirement. You will see some professionals offering advice and attaching contact information in some areas of the board. We allow this on a case by case basis and decide subjectively based on a few factors: are they being very helpful and free with advice rather than just posting a phone number? Are they sponsors of the site? Do they tend not to initiate a topic but rather respond to someone else's question?

Regarding posting or quoting other material for discussion, please do so under the Fair Use clause of copyright law: ..... Sec. 107. Limitations on exclusive rights: Fair use Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include - (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes; (2) the nature of the copyrighted work; (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work. The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors.
