Pamela Anderson takes on Colonel Sanders

TV star leads campaign to remove a bust of 'cruel' KFC founder
from Kentucky state capitol.

January 13, 2006: 2:43 PM EST

NEW YORK (CNN) - Television star Pamela Anderson is leading a campaign to have the bust of Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Harland Sanders removed from the Kentucky state capitol.

In a letter to Gov. Ernie Fletcher, the former Baywatch star says suppliers for the fast food chain, now called KFC, engage in cruel and unusual treatment of chickens, including tearing the heads off of live birds, spitting tobacco into their eyes and spray-painting their faces.

Anderson wrote the letter with the help of People for the Ethical Treatment of animals. In a statement issued by PETA, Anderson said, "The bust of Colonel Sanders stands as a monument to cruelty and has no place in the Kentucky state capitol."

Brett Halle, communications director for the governor, told CNN, "We understand that people have a passion for their causes, but Harland Sanders is a beloved man, and as far as this state is concerned, he exemplifies the best of Kentucky. The governor has no intention of moving his statue. If we were going to move it, it would be to a more prominent position where more people could see it."

A spokeswoman for KFC told CNN that the letter is "just another misguided publicity stunt by PETA in their attempt to create a vegan society."

What's your point Carl?

Pamela Anderson has big fake boobs so she can't care about animal cruelty?

I wish more activists had big boobs, fake or real.

I also wish the big-boobed activists would make out with me, but that's just me.

Andrea Dworkin? Not so much.

I love a few things. First, the irony of removing a bust, spearheaded by Pamela Anderson, the bust herself.

Second, that she needed help from PETA to write the letter. Is she unable to write?

My point is I think the story is amusing.

I find it amusing that the state of Kentucky actually chose to display a statue of Col. Sanders. I find it amusing that Pamela Anderson comes along all these years later and – with all the genuine animal rights issues to be confronted – goes after a bust of Col. Sanders. And I’m entertained by the confrontation. I especially like the part where the governor's spokesman says, "If we were going to move it, it would be to a more prominent position where more people could see it."

I think it's likely she's right about the animal cruelty issue, but it cracks me up that they're fighting over the statue of some old clown. An old dead clown to be exact. I don’t see how that keeps monkeys from getting fried in biology experiments or seals from getting skinned to be fur coats. But that’s just me talking.

Oh, and for myself, I’m not so moved by big boobs. I’m more of a leg man. Pamela is a nice enough looking girl, don’t get me wrong. And I’m sure she's a stunning intellect and a lovely personality, too.

Spitting tobacco and spray painting the chicks faces? Why do they need to do that if they are tearing their heads off?

Lib-I am assuming you beleieve the spokesperson is right, right?

Ahhh, the mental of imagery of Pamela taking out Colonel Sanders, at least his statue....do you think the video will leak out on the internet?

If I manage to become famous in the next year or so, I will challenge Pamela to an oil-wrestling match. Money from ticket sales can go to PETA. Or to the Flat Earth Society, I really don't care, as long as we give the audience a full 12 rounds.
