I havent seen this posted-- during Mondays hearings-- Gonzalez infered there was a different program to eavesdrop on US to US calls- separate from FISA. |

Gonzalez: Quote:President Washington, President Lincoln, President Wilson, President Roosevelt have all authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale.
video available here: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/02/06.html#a7043 in case you don't believe it, which wouldn't be at all surprising. It's generally explained that what he meant was, during the Revolutionary War Washington ordered British mail to be intercepted and read. How many logical errors can you come up with to this line of thinking? |

I'm just thinking about how last week the paleo-con set was positively wetting themselves because Kerry got a statistic wrong. Now Gonzalez is saying that George Washington ordered wiretaps. |

I havent heard a thing from that group-- Seems a few DEMs posted that Kerry got it wrong-- How about some repubs posting how GONZO got it wrong. Maybe its too much to ask. |

I heard from the descendants of a bunch of Tories who moved to Canada after the revolution around 1782 that their forebears were so pissed that Washington intercepted their emails. |

I picked up on the same comment by Gonzalez. However, my read was that he wouldn't comment on purely domestic intercepts, which isn't quite the same as saying it is a "separate program".

Bob K-- Yeah ok-- but he said he was there at the hearings to talk about the "US to Foreign" calls program. IMHO he suggested the US to US calls were a separate program-- and he wasnt at the hearing to talk about that program. I mean- if it was the same program-- then talking about it would come under the charter he himslef laid out for the monday hearings-- and by definition- he could have talked about the US ti US calls. But it wasnt, and he didnt. I found one of the mentions, on this video, not very revealing though- here http://www.canofun.com/blog/videos/2006/SchumerRound2Feb606.asx
