It has been said many times recently that we are more divided than usual, perhaps more than ever. So a lot of complaints about the "other side" may be mere partisanism. But some of it must be valid. Can you tell the difference? If your side does something deserving harsh criticism, can you tell which it is? If so, how? For instance, the Department of Homeland Security was created to make our country safer. FEMA (which is under DHS) seems to have failed, with at least as many people deeply affected by Katrina as by 9/11. Is this a failure, or is it merely Democrats slinging mud? If FEMA really did mess up, how would you recognize it? Maybe the truth is in the middle?

Noglider, "If your side does something deserving harsh criticism, can you tell which it is?" Forgive me for stating the obvious, but if one has taken a "side" they are not impartial. IF one has taken a "side", can they view an issue objectively? Perhaps? Although there is precious little evidence of such objectivity in the Politics message board. TomR |

Quite right! I'd love to be sideless at this point, but I haven't managed it. Still, I've expressed disappointment with Clinton, for example. And I can imagine myself doing the same with others I'll vote for. My point is that I try to be honest by accepting criticism where it's deserved. I think the willingness to do that has waned substantially.

The willingness to do so may have waned substantially on the Politics threads of MOL, but the views expressed on these threads are not necessarily representative of the Township's collective thought. Nor the County's; nor the State's; nor the Nation's. Take a side. There's nothing wrong with being partial to one side of an issue or another. I think its a good thing that there are true believers. Remaining objective in one's analysis of available information requires quite a different skill set. I don't care if other people think what I think. I don't even care much whether they think the way I think. I do require that they think. We disagree from time to time, but you're thinking. TomR |

Haha. As a friend of mine often said, I can tolerate rude, and I can tolerate stupid, but I can't tolerate rude and stupid. I don't actually feel that way, but I liked the way it sounded.

Democrat or Republican, if you shoot someone in the face, I am against it. How's that? J.B. |
