Remarks from Bryant Gumbel excerpted from HBO's Real Sports originally aired on February 7th:
"Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don't like them and won't watch them...Because they're so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when some one attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention."
Gee Bryant, you forgot to mention how predominantly white the snow is. This isn't the first time and surely won't be the last that B.G. plays the race card. No wonder TV's former rising star finds himself a B-list sportscaster. |

Well, I credit the Bush Administration for trying to reduce the whiteness of snow by relaxing environmental rules.
I am sure that in its steel-making heyday, Pittsburgh snow didn't stay white for long. |

Pretty nifty switch of avatars from Richard Nixon to Bryant Gumbel. I don't think that the director of Michael Jackson's Black and White video could have even pulled that one off.
Neverthelss while Gumbels comments seem to be contrived I don't understand what race card he is playing.
Anyway I love Real Sports. They have some really good correspondents covering some really interesting issues. That even includes Bernard Goldberg. |
