http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-02-20-gay-adoption_x.htm ? Or are children just collateral damage in the course of the greater good of the Bush Administration? |

I'm sure one of the usual suspects will be along eventually, Tjohn, to explain that this is just "good politics". |

tjohn- How you can imply that ALL "Bush Supporters" would agree with this? You left leaning folks hate stereotyping even though you do it yourselves time and time again.... -SLK |

So, you don't support this particular bit of the Bush platform but accept it it as collateral damage for the greater good. |

MANY Bush supporters seem to be in denial about what they supported when they elected Bush. |

I missed the part of the article where GWB called for a law against gay couples to adopt children. |

Bush haters trace all perceived anti-gay activities back to GWB. How's that for a nice, stereotyping post, Tjohn? |

Why can't Blue states pass stuff in favor of what the Bush Administration is being tarred as opposing? Ask Jesse Jackson for his view on this and see what he says. There are cultural issues that cut across party lines, and this is just one of them. Am I against gay marriage or gay adoption? No. Am I a republican who regrets his vote for Bush? No. |

drewdix -- I didn't oppose gay marriage per se. I was concerned that any and all arrangements could then be justified. It was ashear I believe who taught me that you can write legislation -- local or federal -- to discriminate against any group/behavior/arrangement you want and could tailor gay marriage narrowly. |

SLK, I supported Clinton in '92. His campaign seemed upbeat and positive. Afterwards, I voted for Clinton because the alternative was worse.

I don't see a problem with this. If states want to enact laws that are ultimately deemed constitutional then why can't they? Do you folks of New Jersey want the Texans currently running the show to make New Jersey law the same as Texas, or do you want the freedom to make your own state decisions. Before I get tarred, I haven't even discussed the merits of this one particular issue. The issue is state's rights so you should be careful about opening that can of worms especially since southern politicians dominate both parties leadership. Reference 4 of the last 5 President's and the majority leader. I'd love to see the reactions if New Jersey was forced to live under Georgia law. You guys would lose it. How about letting the people of each state decide on issues like this? Or does democracy scare you? |

I actually agree with Southerner on this one. In the interests world peace, countries and states need to learn to let other countries and states regulate their own behavior subject to certain limits. The problem we have is too much leisure time and too much communication, so we start worrying too much about what our distant neighbors are doing.
