William F. Buckley. Isn't he just another left wing wacko saying the Bush administration made a mistake. Even some hard core righties are having a tough time justifying Iraq now. But don't worry, freedom is on the march, the insurgency is in its last throes, the Iraqis will soon be able to defend the country on their own, and we can declare victory in the war on terror and we'll all live safely everafter. |

Ah, Scrotey: Unless you were being ironic (something I doubt), you seem to have missed Bettyd's irony in calling WFB "just another left wing wacko" because his piece in the National Review (you know, that bastion of liberal thought) called Bush's Iraq war a failure. When true conservatives begin calling Bush initiatives "failures," then the cat is out of the bag, the toothpaste is out of the tube, and the baby's diaper is soiled. No way back from that. |

A number of Reagan conservatives are starting to speak out against the Bush Administration. The Bush Administration is certainly not committed to the principles of smaller government and a smaller budget. To what extent this is acheivable is open for debate. However, the Bush Admin isn't even trying. |

The Bush administration is commited to money and power. Every deal reeks of cronyism; tax cuts in the higher brackets are the solution for everything; and everything they do is done in as much secrecy as possible. This last one is really telling, and I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation of why an administration which purportedly distrusts government and wants to reduce its influence would not be in favor of the greatest transparency. |

Buckley certainly seems to have cast his verdict in the wake of this week's events. "Our mission has failed because Iraqi animosities have proved uncontainable by an invading army of 130,000 Americans.... And the administration has, now, to cope with failure." -William F. Buckley Jr _______________________________ Meanwhile this picture, (below) and story from just 3 weeks ago in Karbala, (another "Golden Shrine" town), where today a car bomb went off killing eight more. -Remember that all of those people, (below) are presently huddled in their homes, unable to work or go anywhere. Steaming about, thinking about and waiting for what? I find this quote from the story from a 10-year old indicative of what was, and is, so imbedded in the fabric of the society that the "Bush Doctrine" was so determined to influence. Quote: "I am very happy because I took part in these head-beating processions," said 10-year-old Haider Abbas Salim, whose face was covered in blood. "Imam Hussein's martyrdom teaches us manhood and that we shouldn't fear anything." The full story from Feb 6th, (if anyone is curious). http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/09/ap/world/mainD8FLOLQO4.shtml
"b-b-b but, they now have a constitution" -George Bush "Freedom's on the march". |
