Plans are to sober him up for a guest appearance on behalf of Tom Kean, Jr. Now I ain't got nothing for or against Jr. but I believe it is our responsibility to show our acting commander-in-chief that we in N.J. are macho people too. To accomplish this, I purchased an orange hunting jacket to wear at the event so I can demonstrate my support of manly activities while appearing outside the event and simultaneously lessening the danger to myself. Even though I am a registered Republican, I doubt I will ever be sent an invite to the event (also because I don't have the few hundred bucks admission). If anyone knows when the fundraiser is and wants to join me and wants an orange jacket for their personal safety, they are available at Sierratradingpost.com |

Why in the world would a Dick Cheney appearance be good for the Tom Kean Jr. campaign? All it will produce is a bunch of photos that he probably would rather not have around for the November election. Tom Sr. has already blasted the Administration for their tone-deaf handling of the ports issue, and I think Tom Jr. has also come out against the Administration on that. Since NJ is one of the few places in the USA where some sane Republicans stlll exist, what possible benefit is there, for Dick Cheney to appear at the side of a NJ Republican? Oh, and Mr. Caffrey - |

Because he has to win the primary first, he needs some red meat bona fides. Then he can run against the President in the general election. |

It is a fund raiser for Tom. While Crash-cart man may have low popularity ratings, he does generate funds when he appears in public. Money for him right now is worth the risk of negative publicity coming from being associated with the failed administration.

Hey, join the club, fella ... And thank you, Southerner, for while I agree that ESL probably has more insight into political matters than I do, you still continue to demonstrate my point about non-NJ Republicans. |

McCain had a fundraiser for Kean Boy on Sunday at the Short Hills Hilton. They ARE sending in all the big guns. Spect that Bush Boy will also be visiting the Garden State soon. |

From what I have read the Jersey GOP, in a rare case of not shooting themselves in the foot, are behind Tom Kean, Jr. and the primary will be essentially uncontested. I don't know much about the younger Kean, but I am pretty sure that he is smart enough not to run on a "I Love Bush" platform in a state such as New Jersey. The early polls have him beating Menendez handily if the election was today. The only Dem who beat him in a poll was Codey, who is not going to challenge Menendez in a primary. |

Actually, I think he has already been here. The following is from a Blog called Blue New Jersey: "Dick Cheney was in Newark today for a fundraiser for Tom Kean, Jr. No word yet on whether Kean Jr survived. "This gives new meaning to a campaign shooting itself in the foot" - Brad Lawrence, Menendez consultant." Also from the above mentioned website is a report that so far Menendez has over a four to one advantage in funds raised. Menendez hopes to raise $20mil for the campaign. This might explain why Kean had a fund raiser with Cheney on the 20th. Looks like I spoke to soon.

John Caffrey, I couldn't hit anything either, but a guy at work hit all the quail without hitting the lawyer and printed out a very nice graduation certificate from the school. I'm jealous. Cheers |

Thanks, Southerner--I will consider the source and value your comments appropriately, since I have an even more dismissive view of your political insights (not to mention your typos and grammatical challenges). |

"A CIA employee assigned to provide daily intelligence briefs to the Vice President and Libby has handwritten notes indicating that Libby referred to 'Joe Wilson' and 'Valerie Wilson' by those names in conversation with the briefer on June 14, 2003," Fitzgerald wrote in a recently unsealed brief. The filing suggests Cheney may have been present when Libby griped to his CIA briefer about agency officials slamming the veep in the press. Seven officials have testified that Libby raised the CIA spy with them before columnist Robert Novak outed her." Oops. and Cheney is rumoured to be resigning some time between the midterms and when the trial starts. Hmmmm.... |
