Boy, I'm so glad that nothing like this could happen here in Jersey... http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/08/national/08delay.html?hp&ex=1141880400&en=20a4 85fdaba98d7f&ei=5094&partner=homepage -s. |

Actually, I think there's a how-to manual somewhere for politicians (printed in Essex County) about gettings crooks re-elected. |

A sad, but not new, commentary on our values. Trivia question: When was the first crook elected? Hint: When was the first election? |

"The Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan, nonprofit Washington-based research group that tracks money in politics, called the race in the 22nd District the most expensive in the country so far. As of Feb. 13, it said, Mr. DeLay spent almost $1.6 million, Mr. Lampson almost $300,000 and Mr. Campbell only $4,674." Speaks strongly to the power of incumbency and the money it can attract. Much of that money can be spread to local party activists, who are the ones who vote in primaries (ask John Corzine about that one). I mean, why else did DeLay skip being in Texas yesterday in favor of a fundraising dinner held for him BY TWO LOBBYISTS! Money, power, access to pork, and the ability to get out the message outweighed thought and principle for primary voters, obviously. And I bet it also outweighs these in the general election. DeLay is the queen of the cynics in the House, but his doing what they all do more or less.

Or maybe his constituents like what he is doing for them. What don't you guys like about democracy? If you aren't in favor of term limits (I am) then you shouldn't be surprised at results like this. |

How can you be in favor of term limits and say you like Democracy? |

Rastro, That is one of those things I can't really explain, but it is a fair question. I liken it to those on the left who want to kill innocent unborn children, yet they will march and protest for murderers and rapists to be spared. Neither of us have a good answer but this is politics not math so there are no absolutes. A small caveat is I say we either have term limits for all or for no one (Presidency). Of course, we would have had 3 terms for Reagan and Clinton may have been in his 4th by now. |

Neither of us have a good answer but this is politics not math so there are no absolutes. Setting aside the offensive misrepresentation that pro-choicers WANT to kill anything, of course there's a good answer to your example. Not everyone believes that a fetus is a "life," or if it is, that it is more important or valuable than the life/health of the person carrying it. Now where do I put the lid for this can of worms? |

Madden: Don't listen to Southerner. He's just angry that he comes from a state with a law that says when he gets divorced from his wife, they are still legally brother and sister. |

Good one RL. And that doesn't make me angry. It helps keep the family together. |
