Oh but she was also helping HERSELF: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A35297-2003Dec27?language=printer For the last several years, Bush's main business interest has been Ignite!, the educational software company he co-founded in 1999. To fund Ignite!, Bush has raised $23 million from U.S. investors (including his parents), as well as businessmen from Taiwan, Japan, Kuwait, the British Virgin Islands and the United Arab Emirates, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Why did the phrase "Rob from the poor and give to the rich" flash across my brain when I read the above. I can't think of anything sleezier than pretending to be altruistic while actually lining your own pockets. |

It just got better (sleazier). Barbara Bush is an invester in Neal's enterprize. Check it out at democraticunderground.com By the way, Neal Bush was the guy who ran Silverado Savings and Loan that went belly up around 1989. Republican as well as democratic taxpayers had to pony up to pay off the depositors. |

Looks like Mrs. Bush is taking a lesson from the Book of Enron. It is better to give than receive, but it is even better to give to yourself and receive a tax break. |

"It is better to give than receive, but it is even better to give to yourself and receive a tax break." ...true Dave, in more ways than one. The more you give the more you get in return. And, it's even better to give smart so you can keep giving more. Mrs. Bush is a great American. She's loving, smart, generous, and some one to be respected, not ridiculed.

Wow. That sets new records for delusional. People who know the Bush family, and even some members of the Bush family will tell people that old Bar is 40 shades of mean. |

From Maimonidies..Where does Babs fall??? In this brief list, Maimonides offers a succinct and extraordinarily provocative description of the eight degrees of charity, starting with an ideal and moving progressively further away with each step. This simple framework provides an illustration of a particular tradition of giving that continues in the Jewish Community to the present day. The highest degree, exceeded by none, is that of a person who assists a poor Jew by providing him with a gift or a loan or by accepting him into a business partnership or by helping him find employment — in a word, by putting him where he can dispense with other people's aid. A step below this stands the one who gives alms to the needy in such a manner that the giver knows not to whom he gives and the recipient knows not from whom it is that he takes. One step lower is that in which the giver knows to whom he gives but the poor person knows not from whom he receives. A step lower is that in which the poor person knows from whom he is taking but the giver knows not to whom he is giving. The next degree lower is that of him who, with his own hand, bestows a gift before the poor person asks. The next degree lower is that of him who gives only after the poor person asks. The next degree lower is that of him who gives less than is fitting but gives with a gracious mien. The next degree is that of him who gives morosely.

ajc, if you believe nothing you hear and half of what you see, how do you know Barbara Bush is such a loving sweetheart of an old lady? I put more stock in what people's supporters say, and less in what people who have an axe to grind say. Bar's own sons describe her as a tough, hardassed woman you wouldn't want to cross. I haven't heard any of her boys describe her as a sweet old lady, though. |

I care about all ma's and grandma's. This world would be in a hell of a mess without them. If you're going to pick on anyone, why pick on them? Pick on me, I'll give you a run for your money.... |

I think the Bush haters are awfully close to reaching the conservative hatred and infatuation with the Clintons. I still give the edge to the conservatives for our now going on year 15 of our hatred for anything Clinton. You libs are only entering year 7 and yet you are already attacking his mother. I know we dogged Roger pretty hard, and I'm sure some of us went after his mother, but you guys are setting the bar a little higher. You are quickly losing your high ground in telling us to keep quiet about Clinton. And since Hillary is going to run, it will once again be in vogue to attack anything Clinton. Oh, 2008 will be a fun political year. |
