Please Tell Me What David Huemer Has Accomplished?

I’ve lived in town during all of the years that David has been in office. He says he wants to be Mayor. That it’s his turn.

I guess I don’t follow his logic, but regardless can anyone provide a list of things that he’s accomplished. What things has he truly started and finished that have improved our town for its residents.

Remember the man has “served our community” for several terms, so there should be a long list. I need help, exactly what has he brought to the table and carried through on?

Please help me, and help David by providing an example of how has he worked (key word here) as a “bipartisan,” crossing party lines and reaching out to the whole community strengthen our lovely little town?

I’m serious, because I cannot think of a thing. Remember, if possible all answers must seriously try and comply with this criteria:

1) It had to be his idea.
2) He played the lead role from start to finish.
3) The entire community benefited.
4) And most important, your example should show how he reached out to those outside of his party.

Requesting financial aid might fit, so if you know of a Grant that he submitted that works, but only if he did the work and performed the follow up himself.

When and where has Huemer said "it's (my) turn"?

I believe that was taken from an article recently printed in the local News Record. (not this past thursday's, but rather the prior week's.) Else it was in the Star Ledger, but I tend to think it was the News Record. I'm certain my copy has been recycled, but I suspect someone else will confirm that source for the "It's my turn comment."

What is irritating is that it's not just anyone's turn, but rather a choice made by a majority of those who serve on the town council. It may be my imagination, but I believe they choose their leader who then becomes Mayor. Leadership is a role that shouldn't be awarded to someone simply because it's their turn.

...what's this all about Fmertz? David isn't running again until next year (2007. Isn't this a little early to start his campaign?

I'd like to see an accomplishment by any politician anywhere that meets all four of those requirements. I'd also like an explanation of why constituent service -- for example, his help on getting our au pair a visa renewal -- can't count (after all, only my family benefitted).

I understand Dave has desperately tried to work as a "bipartisan" but after a long and exhaustive search, he has yet to locate the Maplewood Republican Party.

fmertz,

Why is this bothering you?

Ask the same thing of Ken Pettis or Kathy Leventhal:

1) It had to be his/her idea.
2) He/she played the lead role from start to finish.
3) The entire community benefited.
4) And most important, your example should show how he reached out to those outside of his party.

Get ready, fmertz. Get set. Go. Name them.

I'll be re-lining the pool whilst you compose an answer. Do be a good boy and hurry on up, eh?

Mr. Huemer and Mr. DeLuca were largely responsible for the re-valuation a few years ago. I think we all know how well that went.

Talk about reinventing history: Huemer didn't take office until 1/1/02.

After the reval.

From what I can tell David's biggest accomplishment was leading the drive to get Vic re-elected.

I stand corrected. I was thinking of Gerry Ryan.

Anyway, I know for a fact that David Huemer voted for some of the largest school budget increases in the history of Maplewood/South Orange and even told Superintendent Horoschak he would approve anything Horoschak asked for.

All the more reason to support him. Our schools are being strangled by budget restrictions. Good programs are being eliminated every year and we're falling further behind systems that we should be competitive with.

This was before the state imposed budget restrictions.
And I think Huemer's rubber stamp approach was wrong. No one held
the Superintendent accountable for anything in the budget. No one asked
for any justification of any numbers. The Super has made a joke out of the
budget process and members of the BOE and BOSE have been the enablers.

No one asked for justification? Not one person? Really? Nobody?

Last week, Huemer was the only one of the 5 township committee members to vote in favor of a preliminary budget with an 8% municipal tax increase.
