This is indeed a shame. Another good man taken down by the libs' slime machine. God speed Tom, your good works for this country will not be forgotten by real Americans. |

TIME MAG- http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1179853,00.html "I'm going to announce tomorrow that I'm not running for reelection and that I'm going to leave Congress," DeLay, who turns 59 on Saturday, said during a 90-minute interview on Monday. "I'm very much at peace with it." He notified President Bush in the afternoon. DeLay and his wife, Christine, said they had been prepared to fight, but that he decided last Wednesday, after months of prayer and contemplation, to spare his suburban Houston district the mudfest to come. "This had become a referendum on me," he said. "So it's better for me to step aside and let it be a referendum on ideas, Republican values and what's important for this district." |

Yup! A second one of DeLay's former aides pleaded guilty last week and agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors. |

GOP - Don't you think there's a chance he's actually guilty? Why else would he quit? If he's found guilty, will you still support him? Isn't it possible the guy is really dirty, and deserves what he gets? |

This won't stop the ongoing collapse of the GOP. It's just a delay tactic. |

As the winner of the recent primary, DeLay is still the guy on the ballot for his district. I'm confident that all the Republicans in New Jersey and nationwide who fought so hard to keep Lautenberg from being a late substitution on the Senate ballot a few years ago will join us in making sure that the Texas GOP doesn't try to put up a new candidate. Because I'm sure y'all are highly principled and know that what's good for the goose is also good for the gander. |

I think the law won't have to be changed like it was in NJ via a state Supreme Court "interpretation." DeLay can claim his official residence in the DC area and be disqualified, opening up the ballot. At least that's what I read somewhere. |

"themp: Did you ever get your money?" RL - There was some dispute over the what we bet on. I was preempively accused of "predictably cheating". That particular correspondent seems to have taken up other hobbies. During the dust up over the fake Iraq photos on that California Congressman's website, I was just waiting for him to start cutting and pasting stuff from "istapundit" proving that it was actually Baghdad in the pictures. The whole thing started with him saying the Democrats would rue the day they made ethics an issue because Pelosi would get investigated and Delay would get cleared. I said Delay would be a gone goose. We made some kind of bet, but now he says it pertains only to conviction on the Texas money laundering charge. So, whatever. I'm not holding my breath. |

No, it was another guy from the way back days. A serious scoffer and gloater. I think he took his marbles and went home. If the search function worked, I would look it up. Jaime got cookie crumbs in the server again. |

It's like one of those backward descent of man posters, where they get more primitive. Straw is like David Niven compared to Scrotis. And Southern started with this phoney David Brooks "I understand the blue states" position, but has drifted into bitter, repetitive gloating. Everything that happens is good for the GOP and bad for the democrats, even the disgraced departure of GOP leadership. |

The descent does echo the descent the of GOP. The right-leaning whack job posters now are less steadfast and more desperate. At least he had something to say, unlike Southerner, and could put a sentence together, unlike Scrotis. David Niven . I'm having trouble now not envisioning Scrotis as Peter Lorre. |

RL, YOU don't get it so it must be US, right? Do you wish me to type slower? I spoke to a prominent liberal on these boards recently (in person) who says it is posters like you that "doesn't help his cause" one bit... Take a hint... And the day I begin taking your political "insight" seriously is the day the Dems manage to win an election. What, you going to whine to Jamie again? -SLK |

"Do you wish me to type slower?" I think I speak for a majority here when I say that I wish you would make more sense. I'm not sure typing slower is going to help you, but you can give it a try if you like. You're all over the place, skidplate. If I had to guess I'd say you had substance abuse issues, which I guess is par for the course for most blowhard conservatives. And by the way, it is you. |

I think RL helps his cause with all his posts. Passion, common sense and a sense of humor they make for great posts. And the day I begin taking your political "insight" seriously is the day the Dems manage to win an election. It looks like we all have to wait until November for you to make sense.

Delay is a quitter. Republicans everywhere should be ashamed. When the going got tough, The Hammer packed it in and ran away with his forked tail between his legs. Coward. |

Perhaps we should stop berating Tom Delay once and for all. He has left "the Washington business" to pursue other opportunities. It could be that he sensed that his former occupation, the pest extermination business, was about to take off in a big way down in Texas, and he wants to be ahead of the curve. I say, "God bless him." Texas cockroaches could find no more suitable companion than the Hammer. |

Southerner: You keep avoiding responding to my offer of over a week ago to pay for three credits of a European history course at the accredited college or university of your choice, on condition that you show me that you at least passed the course. You haven't accepted my offer, but you have the leisure to slip inane and shiftless postings here. At least show me the courtesy of saying "no" to someone who is willing to fund a much needed part of your education. |

Foj: You might not need it, or you might need it very much. I don't know. Keep your hint, in any case. I do know that Southerner's grasp of history is about as solid as dental floss. So I have been making that offer for three weeks now. With no response from him. That surprises me. That kind of course would give him a real leg up when he's old enough to take the SATs. |
