Where do I start?

Inny-The difference is I don't get paid [well] to write on these boards. If you want me to stop working just so I can make picture perfect posts for your grammar-obssessed brain then get over yourself. Your jesuit education really made you a miserable, pompus creep.

And oh, my logic, especially when used at my employment, gained me one of the highest compensation packages out of 500 employees for a powerful investment firm for the second year in the row. So, my superiors, all products of Ivy league schools, must be stupid, right?

If it sounds like I am braging it's beacause (sic) I am. Hows's that for being "full of myself?"

And listen Webster, I am fully aware that "Aristolelian-ish" is not a word. I was engaging in what is known as "word play." How pathetic you are still hung up on this.

Alleygater-can you please show me the difference between "blind devotion" (even though you and others choose to ignore that I said over and over that I don't agree with everything Bush/the Republicans do) of the Republicans and "blind hatred" of the Anti-Bush crowd? There is no such thing as blindly devoted Democrats?

And you have it backwards, if you put your gun away I will stop hitting you. Because if you remember, this "blind hatred" of your all started with the 2000 election....

SLK:

Thanks for the reply.

I don't get paid to write well on these boards or anywhere else either.

In what I do, and in the firm where I ply my trade, writing, thinking, and expressing yourself clearly are bare minimum expectations. The performance bar is a lot higher than that.

Congrats on one of the highest packages out of 500 in your "division."

That could mean that the firm and you had a great year, or it could mean that out of a passel of mediocre performers, you were less mediocre than others. I don't know.

I do know that unless you are privy to the numbers that the rest of the 500 received, or unless all the numbers in your division are publicly posted (which I doubt), your boss could be jivin' you. We do that occasionally.

I enjoy yanking your chain, and I just can't take you seriously.

Inny-

You remind me of an old girlfriend I use to have. A know-it-all liberal who was far more miserable than I could ever have been at the time, she hated me for my more "traditional" views but kept coming back for more and more (you know what I mean)....

But I gurantee (sic) she was much cuter than you, old man...

-SLK

And for clarification, Inny boy, I am too a boss so I know the game just as well. Trust me, my "source" doesn't jive....

SLK:

Sure. I'll take your word on it. Anything you say. Whether about women or comp. You really impress me, boss.

Oh, lawsy me, how could I ever doubt a stalwart like you?

I'm not flattered at reminding you of your old girl friend, however, unless she was a guy. Well, whether she was a guy or a gal, I am sure you enjoyed yourself either way.

I love it when people use the words "trust me..." Then I know that it's time to lock up my daughters, my checkbook, and my credit cards, and put the deeds to the houses in a vault.

You're right, You've got me. I have no come-backs. Trust me on that.

OK, Boss. I'm convinced. You're every bit what you say you are AND every bit what you seem to be.

But the only time you'd have me cornered is when I'm dead, and even that would be a struggle for you.

OK, Boss?

Now get back to your oars.

Oh relax Inny, I am actually too busy rocking out to Van Halen to pay attention to whats going on the boards.

As a punk rock kid, I am now 37 rediscovering some of the music that helped me get through junior high....

so what do you think? Is it Van Halen's first album or 1984 that makes them rock....?

-SLK

PS...I am sorry about the daughter comment, it was uncalled for. But you left the door wide open on that one my friend! :-)

Oh yeah, this is America goshdarnit, we don't use words like "pissant" around these parts, you here my Irish prince?

I accept your apology, and I maintain that if you have children, you would find that type of comment worthy of a pissant or a stupid jerk-off, as you might say in the US.

Are you laying claim to either of those titles?

I used to think that Van Halen's best feature was his wife. That was a while ago.

As to my use of the word "pissant," if the shoe fits...

Then again, the night is still young.

Inny-

I do have children that is partly why I apologized. I was always under the impression you wer single/children free. Again, my apologies.

Both titles rock. God played a sick joke when Sammy Hagar joined later. I think the Eddie finally realized that and threw the bum out...

Diamond Dave forever! :-)

Innis -- if when someone says "Trust me" you get the Willies, why do you support The Left (a presumption on my part as I can't you recall you openly declaring an allegiance) and the bankrupt programs they have for the 'little people'? This is also assuming you are still a high-powered, highly compensated ex-Goldman employee and you've managed to give your multiple spouses a mere pittance to live on in relation to your vast wealth.

CJ:

Your ill-concealed and amateurish sarcasm (you must have been great at writing those "what I did on my summer vacation" reports in shop class) makes me laugh.

I support the Left, as you call it, because I am more comfortable with it than with the Right in this country. I am Irish by birth and upbringing, and many of us are a bit more radical than Americans or Irish-Americans.

Add to the mix that I have lived in several more countries than this one and than most people. I have enough to convince ME of where my "allegiance" as you call it, lies.

And my wives have been well looked after in our divorce settlements. In addition, they are accomplished and well-paid women in their own right. That's more than you deserve to know but adequate to keep your baser instincts and statements at bay.

Don't bet on it Innis.

And I am sorry, after reading the whole back and forth thing that SLK felt the need to brag about his earnings. That has to be one of the most insecure postings I have ever read.

Actually, Duncan, I learned first about Innis' earning prowess when he hinted about his earnings after I erroneously presumed he had been let go by Goldman Sachs.

Without getting any real answer on why Innis supports the Left (though now I also know he's well traveled), we do know he's able to be "comfortable" with the Left in power. Well done, Innis!

CJC:

Hmmm, I guess you'll have to be satisfied with what you know so far, won't you?

If you need a job and want to network, I can understand your curiosity. You can PM me about that.

You're going to have to chalk it all up to my non-American birthright and call me an America hater or freedom hater, or whatever is the latest term among the Hard Right radio commentators who provide your opinions and what passes for your content.

Then you can square that away with my distinguished service in the US military, which I'm confident that you can either match or find a way to question.

Actually I'm already gainfully employed but probably not nearly as well as the picture you paint of yourself. That's why we dream, isn't it? So 'that job' should go to someone else. The investment community isn't the place for me, and I'd rather have them working for me anyway. tom has been looking, though.

I have my insecurities, and...?

What you are hard as nails too....

Do you walk on water as well?

For being a smart guy, you haven't figured out the woman thing I see?

The walking on water thing has eluded me, as hard as I try. But then again, they say that water isn't what it used to be, so that's probably the reason.

A colleague once said that I will probably be very disappointed three days after I die. What do you think he meant by that?

Glad to hear you're gainfully employed. We all have our definition of that term.

Investment banking isn't for everyone, and even for those of us who are thrilled by the business, it can be deadeningly stressful, so you make all you can as fast as you can and try to keep your independence. Otherwise, at 35 you look 55, and at 55, you're carried out on a gurney.

I have always been one of the fortunate ones. It is the luck of the Irish. And smarts. And being able to stay ahead of the game.
