Look at the very first second of this, as a Tom Delay goon pulls down an old lady's hat over her eyes. http://www.brazosriver.com/april_6_nick_lampson_press_confe.htm UPDATE 2: Juanita has the statement of the 70 year old woman who was injured: "I can’t believe my Congressman, Tom DeLay, would organize this type of assault,” Rovai said. “I was assaulted by two different people. One of the men hit me and another shoved his sign into my face, and then when I pushed his sign away he violently pulled my hat down over my eyes and pushed me. I’m considering filing an assault charge. This is just very upsetting and I’m so disappointed in Tom Delay for organizing this attack." |

Delay has a huge support base in Texas. Beloved by the voters and for good reason. The type of guy you want on your side. |

I know it's overused, but these really are nazi tactics. When he can have his guys assault a 70-year old woman, what else would you call it? He doesn't have a huge support base anymore. He didn't even get 1/3 of his district's republicans to vote for him. This is what you want in government, little old ladies getting beaten up because they dare to disagree? Welcome to the fatherland. |

Straw is talking out of his chute again. Houston Chronicle - this week. DeLay may be able to win back the undecided voters, but he starts with the disadvantage of a 60 percent unfavorable rating in the district he has represented for 20 years. Only 28 percent view him favorably, according to the poll. |

Straw is the Karl Rove of MOL. He'll lie through his teeth if it will make the Republican party look good. However I find it rarely works. |

Thanks for the Houston link Notehead. "Only 28 percent view him favorably, according to the poll." -May have SOMETHING to do with why he backed out, -so that the democrats could not "steal", (his word) the election from the republicans in his district. -Thankfully however, with all the issues hanging over his sweaty head he did mange to find the time to go on Fox News so that he could call McKinney a "racist". -Good work Tom, -we needed your strong voice and moral leadership on this important issue.

The hat incident is slightly beyond nothing. It's not even close to union thug behavior. |

But Barbara Bush is a sweet old grandmotherly type who cannot be criticized in print? I've never been high in my life, but I'd LOVE to know what it is you guys are inhaling/smoking/drinking/injecting. |

Look at the clip. This guy pushed her hat down and then shoved her face with the palm of his hand. And that's just part of the general theme of physically disrupting an opponent's event. Dirty tricks are one thing, but intimidation and suppression are another. It's also of a piece with DeLay's menacing tactics at one of the Florida recount locations in 2000. Is this what's going to pass for political discourse in the new Republican era? So far gone from the point where you can win a debate on the evidence or power of your argument, when after all naked power is the only thing you're after, that you've got to bring on the brown-shirts? You can say it's slightly beyond nothing, and maybe you even believe it. But what happens next week? And would you be content with democratic supporters assaulting your little-old-ladies? You should be ashamed of what these people are doing in the name of your cause. |

We're used to being assaulted by Dem goons, and your lack of shame when this happens doesn't bother us. We expect it. |

I imagine that somewhere out there there's a small-time Dem political operation that's physically harassed people. Maybe even in the last thirty years. But show me something similar to this recently and I'll respond. |

Well this crew was definitely out of line. I hope the republican volunteer wasn't injured badly. Nothing in this on arrests, though I certainly hope they were charged and didn't get off. The part about drawing horns and a moustache made me laugh, though. |
