LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Exit polls in Italy's general elections Monday afternoon pointed to a victory for Romano Prodi, the leader of the center-left coalition, over Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. According to a second exit poll, Prodi's coalition took 50% to 54% of the votes in the lower house, while Berlusconi's alliance took 45% to 49%. Prodi's coalition also is seen winning the Senate, according to both exit polls as well an early projection made on actual votes. |

We all know how accurate exit polls can be when they go against the incumbent. [edited from "conservatives" to "the incumbent"] |
