Hunters need nature. Ducks Unlimited has long been a big proponent of preserving natural places.

Teddy Roosevelt - imperialist, proponent of growth, trophy hunter AND did more for conservation and preservation than most of us could even dream of doing.

tjohn, If I was president I would do more...and I wouldn't shoot game animals while doing it either (and the world would be a better place for all too).

Not sure how much more Teddy could have done. And, most of the early conservationists were also hunters. Of course, in Maplewood, gun owner/hunter=Nazi freak, but that is another issue.

What is so surprising about the Field and Stream article? Hunters and fishermen enjoy the outdoors and want to keep it as pristine as possible. Hunting is part of conserving wildlife now that we have dispatched all the wolves. :-)

Anybody want to reintroduce wolves to the Res? Didn't think so.

When Dick Cheney wants to go "hunting"* he gets an invitation to a private reserve. That's apparently what everyone should do.

* Hunting defined here as gathering a bunch of tame ground birds in a cage, and shooting them. He probably goes trout fishing with dynamite.
