Didn't quite know what to amkr of this from the emergency email network this a.m. ;

This information comes from the Department of Homeland Security, Customs
and Border Protection,
Customs and Immigration Enforcement and information is being carried
by The Emergency Email & Wireless Network solely for the purpose of
situational awareness for those agencies, organizations, companies and individuals
that may be impacted by certain activities.
For New Jersey residents.

Maybe it's to notify the public of agencies dealing with immigration, and that the impact may be that the feds will suddenly enforce existing law.

My immediate reaction was that they are now looking for regular citizens to start turning people in -- something I'm not interested in doing.....

It gives right-wing arm-chair soldiers of fortune a chance to help Bush without having to go to war, and a bunch of bullies will have fun busting the poor. Enjoy!!!

I make of it that one of two things happened:

1. The person whose job it is to write these things every week was casting about looking for a new weekly topic even tangentially related to homeland security, and this one caught his or her eye based on all the articles. Like a newsletter writer for the local church, they are always looking for topics.

2. The person whose job it is to write these things every week got a phone call from a GOP Senate staffmember suggesting that this might be a timely topic and help with reauthorization of this person's job.

It is a rehash of lots of Dept of Labor stuff about I-9 forms, etc. Took someone about 10 minutes to write.
