Quote:

Bush: 'I'm the decider'

President Bush today forcefully defended his defense secretary, saying Donald Rumsfeld is doing a fine job. "I hear the voices, and I read the front page and I know the speculation," the president said. "But I'm the decider, and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

You are a pusillanimous, barely literate buffoon.

As shown by your sly RACIST comment (my Irish teeth are quite straight and perfect, thanks to growing up in a country where the health system was available to all) you have no idea what you're talking about.

How can you possibly retain the blind Bush loyalty you have unless for some reason you're trapped in it by your lack of awareness of anything that's happening in the world beyond your navel?

When I read your bumbling thoughts and attacks, I realize that ignorance of what's really going on in this country is the only possible excuse you could have for the drivel you post. I also realize that you make a habit of trying to insult people when your capacity for reasoning and arguing runs out. And that capacity is so limited that it runs out very quickly.

blah, blah, blah. All you have to do is win, but yet you can't. I love the buildup. All the Dems are so excited it's a thing of beauty. It's like watching a 17 year old on prom night. He knows the opportunity may be there, but he also knows he doesn't have the game to get there.

If all you Dems have are insults for the Republicans then you will be living Fitzmas all over again. And when you wake up on that November morning, you'll see the same headline you have for years "Republicans maintain hold on Congress". And then we will have two weeks worth of self introspection by the deep thinking Dems on why their brilliant message didn't get heard. Forget the fact that the Democratic brilliant message has been heard ad naseum for 6 years, and has been roundly rejected. I apologize for rambling, but I am just so excited about thinking of all the good libs once again perplexed at the results of Democracy.

Well, some days it's Cheney, and the rest of the time it's Karl. Personally, I suspect that Karl has rigged up some kind of speaker system throughout the White House and uses it to speak to W with the Voice Of The Lord.

Karl: Geeeeeoooooorge!

W: Oh, my God!

Karl: That's right.

W: I mean... Yes, Lord?

Karl: We need more money to battle the heathens in the Ancient World. And by the way, have you noticed that your national park system has plenty of cash? It's almost as if money was growing on the trees! BWAH HA HA HAAAARRRR!!

W: Good one, your Everythingness!

Karl: OF COURSE IT WAS A GOOD ONE! Now... how do you suppose you should come up with more money to smite the evildoers?

W: Um... maybe we could take some money from the budgets for the national parks and...

Karl: YES! That's it, George. A reduction in their budget of 20% will be good to start with. Good boy. Now go to the kitchen and have some cookies.

W: Will do, your Gargantuanosity. Cookies... hooray!

dave23,
That is why I love many, many Democrats. They are able to turn a loss into a victory in their intellectually superior way. And it fits perfectly into my simple mind. I control the Congress, and you can claim a victory. We both win. I knew you had some great insight.

Although, I wonder if many other Dems believe this. Let me ask. Are there any Democrats who will feel victorious if you gain seats but are still the minority? Please stand up and be counted. Don't leave dave all by himself.

tom,
I obviously struck a truthful nerve. Don't blame me that your Democratic boys have a pitiful record over the past 20plus years. They allowed a movie star to become a two termer, now they have allowed a nitwit to become a two termer. Don't hate the messenger, hate the message.

cjc,
is it possible for you to humbly admit an error without making a snide comment? while I can't personally speak to its per capita supply of dentists, it is true that Ireland happens to have a typically generous European welfare state in addition to an economy that is the envy of the EU. if you want to be snide, Ireland is perhaps the worst choice of a country to be so critical of.

ignorance plus arrogance is a very unappealing combination.

Doctor -- what about "Sorry, you're right" is arrogant? And I extended it to presume I was equally wrong on the population of dentists in Ireland. Should I apologize to them too?

And if I'm ignorant on some issues, I would think you'd find that sympathetically human especially given my apologies and further research into the matter to find out that N. Ireland is part of the UK so as to no longer be ignorant on that issue.

that's not a simple "sorry, you're right." if you had stopped at "UK" it would have been a proper apology. but after that you couldn't resist a sarcastic dig. so no, I don't consider that humble at all. but maybe you and I have different ideas of what humble is.

but whatever, I suggest you do a little more research on Ireland. as a conservative, you'd probably find a lot to like about how they run their country.

dave23,
I hear you. But I am looking at the big picture. I do expect the Dems to pick up some seats, but not enough to take back power. To me having the committees and Congress controlled by Republicans is an absolute victory even if we lose some seats. That is why I say both sides can claim victory. You and your liberal friends can dance around saying you finally won a head to head matchup with the conservatives. And me, and my conservative friends can dance around saying who cares, we still control everything. I can take losing as long as we don't lose control.

Like I said earlier, how happy will you Dems be to pick up seats in Congress yet the headlines read "Republicans still in control". Can an honest Dem answer me this question. Either you will feel happy that you gained seats and leave it at that, or you will be upset that you didn't gain enough. I'm really curious. What is the battle - to gain control or just gain seats? Please, can a Dem answer this question.

CJC:

I just viewed your posting. Never had buck teeth, nor has anyone in my family had them.

Are you focused on buck teeth because of a personal characteristic?

I guess you look at numbers differently than I do. It doesn't matter to me how many dentists there are, as long as there are good outcomes. That goes for medical care as well, which is good to extra good in the Republic (which, as I expect even you know by now, hasn't been part of the UK since the mid-1920's) and covers everyone.

But then what do I know about Ireland? I only grew up there and lived there. Unlike you who, I am sure, have more in-depth knowledge of that country and others.

That's only 4 million or so people in the Republic. So that's not a lot of people to cover with medical insurance. And it's an insignificant number when one considers that more than 45 million people in this country have no medical coverage whatever, except for the Emergency Rooms they can squeeze into.

The Republican party does your thinking for you, and the current administration must think you're stupid because you swallow all its pronouncements and regurgitate most of them here.

Which is why I said you don't use your brain.

You're so wrapped up in "Dems vs Us" that you have no room in your brain to understand that some people can find the current administration to be an incompetent mass of idiots without believing that the Democratic Party is any better.

You automatically assume that anti-Admin and anti-republican is pro-Democratic.

Your brain seems incapable of holding two conflicting ideas at the same time. Because you don't give your brain any exercise, it takes the easy way out.

Do I need to make it clearer?

I'm not sure I can. I'm not sure anyone can.

My last two posts have drifted from the thread.

"I'm the decider" was a very good moment in the public speaking career of GWB. Very decisive ( which a decider should be ).

But his "I'm listening to the voices" sounds eerily as though he's been conversing with the microwave oven in the White House kitchen.

However, he sounds just like the kid who threatens to take his bat, ball, and glove and go home if he doesn't get his way.

We have not heard the end of the Rumsfeld affair. Mark my words.

There's not much distance between "You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie" and "Don Rumsfeld's doing a fine job..." Rumsfeld and Bush seem to be almost checkmated. Their only move is not to move. To do anything else would be to admit mistakes.

a wonderfully Bushian tautology. That's Bush's logic for you. Why is keeeping Rummy best? Because I'm the decider and I decided it is. QED.

I really don't think Bush is an idiot. I think he thinks we Americans are idiots.

Bush did a good job of reading those lines to the press. Do you think they were written by Cheney or by Rumsfeld?

When you use Quod erat demonstrandum and GWB in the same sentence, it gives me the same weird, queasy feeling as when I heard GWB say "I hear the voices..."

I can't explain the disconnect there. It's like the disconnect between this administration and the country.

from talkingpointsmemo, an interesting point

Quote:

With Rumsfeld, or any other cabinet secretary, there's a related problem -- the importance of which has, I think, not been fully appreciated or aired. If Rumsfeld goes, you need to nominate someone else and get them through a senate confirmation. That means an open airing of the disaster of this administration's national security policy. Every particular; all about Iraq. Think how much they don't want that ...

Finally, can they find anyone on the outside who wants in? This, remember, seems to be the problem with Treasury Secretary Snow. He has already, in essence, been fired. But they can't come up with anyone crazy enough to take the job.

If Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, or Andy Fastow were available, I'm sure GWB would nominate one of them to replace John Snow in a "New York minute." They are, or have become, good ol' boys and know Houston well.

They are also experts in executing failed initiatives, misrepresenting fiction for fact, and playing fast and loose with laws and regs. That fits in nicely in the current administration.

They seem to be preoccupied with other matters, however.

In the manner of Delay, Cunningham, and Abramoff.

"I'm a decider"??? Didn't The Monkees write that one? If not, this seems like an opportunity for great lyrics entitled, "I'm the Decider".

I'M THE DECIDER
(Koo-Koo-Ka-Choo)

I am me and Rummy's he, Iraq is free and we are all together
See the world run when Dick shoots his gun, see how I lie
I'm Lying...

Sitting on my own brain, waiting for the end of days
Corporation profits, Bloody oil money
I'm above the law and I'll decide what's right or wrong

I am the egg head, I'm the Commander, I'm the Decider
Koo-Koo-Kachoo

Baghdad city policeman sitting pretty little targets in a row
See how they die when the shrapnel flies see mothers cry
I'm Lying...I'm Ly-ing...I'm Lying...I'm Ly-ing

Yellow cake plutonium, imaginary WMD's
Declassifying facts, exposing secret agents
Tax cuts for the wealthy leaving all the poor behind

CHORUS

Sitting in the White house garden talking to the Lord
My thoughts would be busy busy hatching If I only had a brain

CHORUS

(coutesy of THE REAL BABY JESUS)

The Great Decider
(With Apologies to the Platters' "The Great Pretender")
by Richard Cummings

Oh yes I'm the great decider (ooh ooh)
Pretending I'm deciding well (ooh ooh)
My need is such I decide too much
I'm deciding but no one can tell

Oh yes I'm the great decider (ooh ooh)
Adrift in a world of my own (ooh ooh)
I play the game but to my real shame
You've left me to decide all alone

Too real are these decisions of make believe
Too real when I feel what my Sec Def
Can't conceal

Ooh Ooh yes I'm the great decider (ooh ooh)
Just bombing and gay like a clown (ooh ooh)
I've decided to be what I'm not (you see)
I decide like I'm wearing a crown
Pretending we've got enough troops on the ground

Yeah ooh ooh
Too real when I feel what my SecDef
Can't conceal

Oh yes I'm the great decider
Just bombing and gay like a clown (ooh ooh)
I've decided to be what I'm not you see
I'm deciding like I wear a crown
Pretending that Rove
Pretending that Rove's still around.

Now, you guys are making fun of the Prez.

Wait a minute.

After all, he's the very guy who sat next to President Hu today (leader of the world's fastest growing economy) at the White House while Hu fielded most of the questions and GWB fired back in short bursts (his verbal "clip" holds only five shots).

Best of all was watching GWB tug on Hu's arm (wait a minute, Hu's arm did he tug on?) to make sure Hu didn't walk away from the great GWB photo op.

Otherwise GWB looked as though he'd rather be ridin' and ropin' armadillos down in Crawford.

Priceless.

hey, theres a curious thing happening. in vermont and now illinois, districts are passing resolutions for the impeachment of president bush for willfully ignoring his oath to protect the coinstitutuion. for details, go here: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/4/21/75612/7906

i think we all need to call codey, hackett and mckeon and ask them to sponsor some legislation. what does everyone think of this?

Pat Leahy and Jim Jeffords in VT would sponsor such a resolution in a minute. That's why I have my second home there.
