"The occasion was disrupted when a member of the Falun Gong spiritual sect, accredited as a reporter for a sect-run publication to cover the ceremony at the White House, interrupted Mr. Hu's address and upset the elaborate choreography the Chinese delegation had regarded as the most important trophy of Mr. Hu's visit. Screaming, "President Bush, make him stop persecuting Falun Gong," the ethnic Chinese woman, Wenyi Wang, partly drowned out Mr. Hu. She continued shouting for more than a minute before security officers removed her."

Should she be detained for a really long time? Given a medal? What are our values now? Are we absolutists about security?

What a typical Democrat - you don't even take a stance. You just throw up a question and then you can go to the left of whatever the GOP members post.

Typical wingnut. Resents nothing more than somebody asking a good question.

I think the woman's outburst was a good education for Hu about one aspect of a truly free society. I wouldn't give her a medal, but I respect her for making a scene to promote a just cause.

Meow! Someone didn't get her saucer of milk this morning.

I'm not going to the left of anyone. I think it intriguing that someone who shouts truths to a foriegn despot is detained. This is a non-partisan issue.

What should be done with her is whatever has been done with other vocal protesters in the past. Usually they are escorted away from the venue. If they resist, they can be charged with resisting an officer.

My question is what should be done with a US president who looks out of place next to the leader of the world's most populous nation and fastest growing economy and who appears to have no ability to influence, cajole, or convince that leader to make any changes in his positions? Make him return his MBA diploma and transcripts to HBS?

Ok, down boy. We know, we know you don't like Bush but how many different ways can you possibly say it?

Sorry that GWB didn't do any "influencing, cajoling or convincing" when you want it to happen.

SLK:

When will that vacant brain of yours let up?

You object to what I said about yesterday's "summit" because I am on the mark.

GWB has no credibility with any world leader except Poodle Tony Blair (whose country I will be in for the next 10 days starting tomorrow afternoon).

As I see it, your problem is that you voted for an empty suit, and you don't like being reminded of it.

For the next 10 days, don't worry.

Why don't you go away then SLK?

There are only about 3 posters who are on my "don't bother to read list". You've earned a place there (not that you care). Not because of political differences, but because you've become one of those "drop a few insults and leave" posters.

I don't get the "wasted energy" remark. So it is worth the energy to drop in and insult a few people?

Kinda dumb, but have at it if it keeps you happy.

Besides, maybe you should offer a post with some meat on it so I and the rest can sink my teeth into it.

I feel honored! :-) Can I ask who the other 2 posters are? Somehow I am having a hard time believing it is has nothing to do with "political differences."

It is funny how a large chunk of posters throw insults back and forth but somehow I am the only one guilty of it....

SLK:

"I have too much fun imitating the rest of you..." is a quote from you above.

Nice comment because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, on the one hand.

On the other hand, you're an imitator because you lack a single original thought.

That's been clear since you started posting.

At the very least, you've been consistent.

Congratulations.

Stop bothering the communist Chinese! If you irritate them too much, they might stop shipping us $40 VCR's! Then, what would the big box stores do? Think of all the CEO's who would have to look for another country to underprice american labor! Is that fair??? And what if the Beijing dictators stopped buying our debt? Then what?? Who would finance our $600 billion trade deficit and our $500 Billion budget deficit? We Americans might have to actually MAKE something! You know, something tangible, something real!

Remember. I don't hate Bush. But I do have a deep disrespect for his incompetence and lack of suitability for office.

That, and only that, is the reason why I hold Bush (and often his supporters) up to ridicule.

The man is out of his depth and should never have left Midland. His being a failed oilman is far less ominous for this country, our borders, our economy, our environment, our competitiveness, our international stature, our security, than his being an incompetent, failed chief of state.

In fact, putting chief of state and GWB in the same sentence really doesn't come easy to me.

I'm happy to be on VS 4 out of JFK tomorrow evening for 9 days in the UK, so I can be in another country again for a while.

This is fun. You libs haven't had an original post in 6 years, yet you say SLK doesn't offer anything of substance. How many times must it be said that this entire board lacks substance, from Foj's meaningless overused links, to Reingold's infatuation with Krugman, and to RL's love of himself. All of us can tell we are in the middle of another typical administration. The Dems have been so beat down lately they are in a "hate Bush" fog as these threads remind us. Meanwhile, they, like Pavlov's dog, realize another election is around the corner and they truly believe this will be the one. The typical cons, myself included, can just sit back, watch with amusement, and then will be called cheerleaders when we simply say, I told you so. Then again, I guarantee, most of you libs will be screaming victory and dancing in the streets when you gain a few seats. I just can't wait until those few seats still gets you Stevens sticking it where the sun don't shine. Those few seats will be a huge victory for the liberal cause.

Again, I ask the question not one liberal Democrat has answered - What are your terms of victory in these upcoming elections - 1)Control of Congress, 2)Control of one chamber, 3)Gain seats yet remain the minority? Which one is it?

I'll answer for myself - if the Republicans maintain control of both chambers then it is a Republican victory. If we lose one chamber then it is a Democratic victory. I am even giving you Dems a break by allowing a tie to go to you. Every once in a while a hungry dog deserves a bone.

Talk about substance? How about your substance abuse? The inhalation of stale Republican bs.

By the way, I'm still waiting for your answer on my offer to pay your tuition costs for three college credits of European history, on the condition that you pass the course and that you take the course at an accredited academic institution (now in your case, either or both of those conditions may not be possible).

I'm seriously ready to write the check. Is there some other language or dialect that I need to translate the offer into, for you to read it and respond?

By the way, if the board is meaningless, why bother writing 10 lines about it?

Inny-

And please don't forget that I am not in love with Bush. I have disagreed with him on many things. The thing I can't stand on these boards is the typical Bush bashing w/o substance. The seek and destroy mission to find anything to bust the mans cajones about with typical liberal cliches to back it up.

I have always said (maybe not here) it is not so much that I am a conservative but more that I disagree with many liberal views.

Have fun in the UK...just avoid any dentists! :-)

mjh-

One more thing. If you pay attention you will see I don't insult just anyone. The only real poster on my sh*t list is RL because the ignorance he spews. I have my moments with tulip (who doesn't-she even drives some of the lefties nuts) but that has subsided (maybe because she hasn't been around).

That is about it. I think this is the first time Reingold and I got into it but usually we have good conversations (despite our political differences), especially about constitutional issues. Inny and I have like a brotherly love/hate thang. We can't stand each other's perspectives but we still are down wit heach other in the end.

When I first joined up, I think it was Reingold who taught me to not try to change the world/minds on this board just to say what you have to say and that's it.

And that is what I am doing. I am sorry that you disagree with my opinions with it or just ignore my posts. I always strive to have socratic gadflies in my life and I hope you and everyone else do the same.

But I am not going anywhere, especially since you want me to.

Oh, I get it. Because of the cliche that Brits have bad teeth. Whoo hoo that's a good one. Hardy f'n har har. The Brits have bad teeth, and he's going over there, so if he goes to a dentist while he's abroad he might come home with bad teeth. What a hoot! You're so clever. What a clever lad.

SLK,
Why are you trying. Remember, most libs are all talk and no action. I have been told several times by certain posters that they will stop responding to me. Then, they respond? I don't get it. It's as if they have no self control. There are a few libs who have stuck by their word and have stopped. I at least respect them. There are certain posters I do not respond to, no matter the bait. It's called self control. They know who they are as does everyone else. Move on and read the threads and respond as if they didn't exist. It makes the board a lot more enjoyable. For instance, when I check in and see Foj has started 5 new threads in the last hour, then I know poor Foj is lonely and Google happy. I know it's going to be some obscure websites Bush bashing so I don't even read them until I see at least 20 other responses on the thread. Then I figure maybe it's interesting. I have enjoyed this board a ton more since I started doing this. I just wish those who say they will never respond again will stick to their word. However, I must confess, whenever I need a nice chuckle I actually read Reingold's (aka Krugman-lite) links and some of Foj's because it makes me realize they can never be allowed to win. Every dime to Diebold is worth it!

RL-

Geography Lesson: The UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Fact: Innisowen is Irish, born and bred in the Mother Land and emigrated here.

Fact: My comments about Dentists is a result of another conversation we had on another board. An "inside joke" (for lack of better terms)that he will definitely catch. If you were paying attention you would have noticed that CJC made a smiliar comment to Inny because he too was involved in the thread.

Fact: What we believe and what is true are usually two different things.

Fact: "you're just not proud of it (not should you be)." Good grammar skills.

Point: Again you have no idea what in the hell you are talking about.

Then again, what is new?

Fact: You bring down the collective IQ of our town.

Fact: Nobody here wants your kind.

Fact: You'd feel more at home in a hicky, inbred, no nothing Red State.

Fact: From this board alone we can generate enough money to help that happen.

Innisowen is Irish, from in The Republic of Ireland, which is about as much a part of the UK as the US.

some people on this board didn't know that, but it didn't stop them from disparaging Ireland. has nothing to do with this thread of couse, but MOL can be like a soap opera - you've got to know the full back story to completely understand what's going on.

but back to the thread topic. did anyone notice the irony that moments before the protester was arrested, Bush had said this:

Quote:

China can grow even more successful by allowing the Chinese people the freedom to assemble, to speak freely, and to worship.

and then, according to AP, after the woman interrupted the press conference:

Quote:

Secret Service spokesman Jim Mackin said that she had been charged with disorderly conduct and that a charge of intimidating or disrupting foreign officials was also being considered.

so not five minutes after Bush is talking about the importance of allowing the Chinese people to speak freely, we were throwing a woman in jail and charging her with a crime for doing just that. I don't mean to suggest that she should have been allowed to remain at the press conference, but why not just eject her from the premises without charging her with a crime? she had no weapon, made no threats, she merely shouted a protest.

She should be released after being deprogrammed from the influence of a twisted, homophobic cult.

Dave: You seem to know something about Falun Gong. Would you kindly elaborate?

Falun Gong and sexual orientation
As in many traditional practices, lust is thought of as something that hinders a person's progress in cultivation. Though not central to the beliefs, homosexuality is regarded as not meeting the standard of being human [39]. Considered to be an act that brings bad karma upon oneself, Li states in Volume II of Zhuan Falun that "The disgusting homosexuality reflects the dirty mental abnormality that has lost ability to reason at this time."

Also taught is the idea that if it were not for Li’s “upright Fa to keep human beings in check” homosexuals could expect to be singled out for punishment by the Gods. Speaking in Switzerland in 1998, Li suggested that by renouncing their sexual behavior (and presumably living a celibate life) homosexuals might experience a different outcome. When asked why homosexuals are considered "bad people" Li responded:[40]

When gods created man they prescribed standards for human behavior and living. When human beings overstep those boundaries, they are no longer called human beings, though they still assume the outer appearance of a human. So gods can’t tolerate their existence and will destroy them.

According to Li, events such as “wars, epidemics and natural and man-made disasters” happen in order to remove karma. While stating that people who are degenerated will be destroyed, Li describes a special kind of suffering for homosexuals. Not only will the “fundamental elements of their existence” be destroyed, they will also be made to undergo a particularly slow and painful process:

That person is annihilated layer after layer at a rate that seems pretty rapid to us, but in fact it’s extremely slow in that time field. Over and over again, one is annihilated in an extremely painful way. It’s terribly frightening. [41]

In Frankfurt (1998) Li stated that homosexuals could still practice cultivation, provided they give up their bad behavior: "You are wantonly indulging your thoughts. Your thoughts, like the ones I just mentioned, are not actually you. The mentality that makes you homosexual was driven by postnatally-formed bad things. But you yourself were numbed by them and went along with them and wallowed in the mud. You need to find yourself again and stop doing those filthy things. Gods view them as filthy."

Li lists "homosexuality, licentious desires" as one category in his poem The World’s Ten Evils (a direct translation from Chinese):

Humans without kind thoughts / Human against human as enemy.
Destroying traditions / Culture turning decadent.
Homosexuality, licentious desires / Dark heart, turning demonic.
Gambling popular, drugs popular / Following whims and desires.
Lifting restrictions, promiscuity / Leading to evil and wickedness.
Sinister gangs. treacherous factions, / Politicians and bandits, all one family.
Acting on one’s own decisions, deranging the masses / Against heaven, betraying Dao.
Blindly believing in science / Mutant mankind.
Publicizing and revering violence / Fond of audaciousness, competing at ruthlessness.
Religions turned evil / Money seekers, politicians
July 7, 1998 [42]
Deng and Fang (2000) state that “the theories and behaviors of the Falungong Master and some disciples reflect a deep-seated belief of elitism (superiority of the chosen), racism (against biracial at least), and bigotry (condemning homosexuals to the harshest punishment).” [43] While observing that homosexuals are singled out for the harshest of punishments, these commentators also argue that Li Hongzhi uses a variety of fear tactics to indoctrinate and control all of his disciples. Among those fears are demonic interference, “evil forces,” alien invasions and an approaching apocalypse. These fears are supported by practitioners’ beliefs that humans have been abandoned by the Gods, they're in the period of the Last Havoc (a kind of apocalypse), and only Li Hongzhi can save them. According to Deng and Fang, when practitioners accept Li’s starkly negative valuation system, they take “a step toward removing human confidence and dignity.” [44]

RL-

Oh, you must be one of those pro-diversity Maplewoodians I keep hearing about. Too bad you don't practice what you preach, but not surprising....

It is because you don't want me around that I am sticking around... ;)

So, when are you inviting me over for dinner? Can you cook me some salisbury steak?

I have never preached diversity when is comes to right-leaning whack jobs. You're lying about that.

But please stay on this board. You make me feel better about myself.

I think she has been rendered to Egypt for interogation before being sent to China. Those pesky ACLU types had almot tracked her down at Gitmo.
