Very enjoyable. Great portrait of a really nice, pleasant, caring guy with his family just being themselves. I love the shot of the baby with the giant headphones on in the helicopter. A similar picture might be created of any politician, I suppose, but this had a very candid quality about it that I liked.

So, does this mean that he is really going to go for it again?

People are afraid of Al Gore in part because of his Carter-esque insistence on telling the truth about environment and energy issues. Nobody likes bad news. I've never agreed with those who feel that he comes across as "wooden" or "stiff". I think people are paying too little attention to what he's saying, and too much to how he says it. He'd make a great President, although whoever gets the job will really have their hands full just trying to correct our course.

He had his chance.

He blew it.

Say what you want about dimpled chads or whatever. He lost. Against a weak candidate.

If the dems really want to win, I gently suggest they find some new blood. Some real leadership.

If the public still wants to base their choice on superficial attributes, then there is not much reason for Gore to run (and one might further state that we get what we deserve). If the public wants to be more mature about it and choose a guy with skills, knowledge, experience, and proper priorities, then Gore remains one of the best guys available for the job -- a very subjective point, obviously. I've been a fan of his for a long time and would love to see him get another shot.

Incidentally, I used to hang with a guy named Chad, and he did actually have dimples.

cfb: She has terrible negatives. Another thread on this board went over her with a fine tooth comb. To summarize: She has the will, the money and the deep pocketed benefactors to finance a run. She would be very quick to go negative and slime anyone she ran against. But the country dislikes her, or to be more precise, mistrusts her. People simply do not know what, if anything, she stands for. She could have scored points by voting against the Iraq invasion, but she chose to go with the flow. Serious lack of leadership.

To repeat, the dems need serious new blood. Warner seems to be a viable candidate. Gore had his chance, and blew it. So did Kerry.

I would support Joe Lieberman. At least he is sane.

Joe Lieberman? I hope not. He's turned into a Republican. Not only has he not stood up against Bush and his impeachable and incompetent policies, he's bent over for all of it and supported almost everything. We don't need political expediency nor do we need someone so complicit in the evil-doings of the Bushies.

Mr T,

So you are saying that... um... Hillary... um... is not "politically expedient" in her positions? And the other potential democratic candidates... are well.. profiles in courage, in standing up to Bush?

Lieberman has common sense on international affairs, the right social views, and would be acceptable to the bulk of the country, who like it or not, blue staters have to live with.

Given your Kos-like criteria, the only one that you could support is Ralph Nader. And he thinks GM is still producing the corvair, or something.

FvsF, Read the other thread. I said that Hilary is unelectable. However, I agree with you that not a single Democrat in the House or Senate has stood up and said,

"I disagree with this President and I beseech thee, oh, voter, citizen and constituent, to stand up and let your voice be heard along with mine as I battle for what I believe, as an independent-thinking Liberal Democrat, is the righteous and true path for this great and mighty nation.

My choice for the Democratic nomination, at this point in time (meaning it might change) is AL GORE. He wasn't in Congress during this cesspoolian period but yes, has also been....quiet...on the critical issues.

Who the hell else is there? Frankly I despair for my party!

In some ways I agree with Chris about recycling yesterday's losing candidates. Especially Kerry, 'cause I never really liked him much.......I want to tell him to shut up every time I see him getting any news coverage.

On the other hand, I get a sense of integrity from Gore that I don't feel at all in the vast majority of politicians (left or right). I look at him and think "honest" and "smart"......a far cry from what I feel about Bush, Kerry, Hillary, etc. I can't help but think positive thoughts about where we would be as a nation right now if Gore had been elected rather than Bush. I truly believe we'd be in a lot better place. I think that realization is what drives a lot of liberals and moderate democrats to look again at Gore and think wishful thoughts. He doesn't have the charisma or good ol' boy attractiveness that seems to drive a lot of voters, but people may be ready to look a little deeper after what we got from electing handsome and charming good ol' boy Bush.

So, I don't know. I'd dismiss any thoughts of John Kerry instantly, but Gore draws mixed feelings for me.

well he was elected once...

In addition to "honest" and "smart" I'd add "human."
