Wasn't that long ago that Ross Peroit was talking about the great sucking sound of American jobs going south of the border if N.A.F.T.A. was passed. Proponents argued that if the bill was passed, it would stop illegals from crossing the border since there would be good jobs for them in latin Amer. countries. Well now there are 12 million that Bush wants to legalize. Lets make a compromise -- amnesty in exchange for rescinding N.A.F.T.A. |

You have a very good point. NAFTA was supposed to do something about this, it didnt. I think your idea is very good. Would you condier throwing CAFTA in the mix as well? |

Yes. My point is not anti-immigrant but about big business and politicians lying to pass a bill which benefits only themselves.

They said all the jobs would go to Mexico Mexico sees something like 3-500K a year of their citizens risk their lives in some cases to cross the border primarily to find work. I would be interested to see the explanation for that. John? |

Vincente Fox runs an Oligarchal country. 1/2 the country gets by on $2 a day. It might be the right thing to do to pressure Mr. Fox to do something about the Mexican economy, like start a middle class, like Chavez. |

Chavez, Is more about Latino Nationalism, building infrastucture to compete(which includes a middle class, literacy and a healthcare system), and not letting global corporations steal his country's resources. |

I was in San Diego last week, and got an earful. Hospitals have closed, the city is bankrupt, and, for example, I was told by a med school professor, illegals come over to give birth, which opens the door to the extended family, and unpayable bills. Buenos dias. Snr. Dranove |

Chavez is nothing more than a cheap thug. Another Latin American populist, masking another grab of personal power with anti-American dogma. He will do nothing for his people but impoverish them. And he will destroy what little middle class there is. Peron in Argentina, Castro in Cuba, now Chavez in Venezuela. Sad, depressing, and utterly predictable. |

I was asked if I was against free trade. Results of free trade: My Mercedes gets imported for a few thousand less. My sneakers get imported for Nike's for $2.00 less. Does the money saved by the company get me a reduced cost on the car or the sneakers? 14 y.o. Ramon in the Phillipines get to make my sneakers for $0.95 per hour. Better than that, 10 y.0. Chou in China gets to make my sneakers for $0.25 per hour. I am really happy that Ramon and Chou have jobs that give them a head start in earning money towards their college degrees. So, I guess I really do support free trade.
