I know this isn't true politics but...
So the Dixie Chicks recant their opinion -- yet again. Now they really do think George Bush is a wanker.

I find this so stupid and annoying. So they didn't have the balls to stand by their convictions because of their record sales would decline. But now that only 1/3 of the population is dissatisfied with Bush, now it's ok to be honest? Or is it that they know that even bad press gets you in the media spotlight -- which is better than no one talking about you? It's people like this that make me really ill.

Say what you want about Susan Sarandon and Ted Nugent but at least they are honest about who they are.

Alley-

We finally agree! :-)

I remember watching a Good Morning America interview with them a few years back. They were whining about fallout after their Bush rant (you all remember).

They went a clip of an interview with the President who said he respects the DC opinion but that they must understand that free sppech is a two way street.

They went back to the DC, now all tears, shaking their heads saying they can't understand how their commander in chief can can such a thing.

I remember thinking to myself, wow not only does their music suck but they are completely clueless as well.

I couldn't care less what they think about politics. Their new album is awesome!

I guess this means they care more about their careers than their political convictions. Not very different from many people. No shock or surprise. I'm not even disappointed.

No Tom, I think you have it wrong. I think this is a case of doing something (anything) to get themselves in the limelight. Record sales were probably in a slump, so they thought up this hair-brained scheme to get in the news. I actually feel guilty having started this thread, now that I think about it. I'm part of the problem.

True, because I don't care enough about it. But doing anything to get in the limelight: isn't that what celebrities do?

I'm still not disappointed.

Reingold,
I fall in your camp. Who is surprised by this type of stuff any more? Hello, wake up. Celebrities and politicians will do and say anything to get what they want. I happen to enjoy the DixieChicks music even though I wouldn't have them over for dinner. If I allowed politics to prevent my enjoyment of other pursuits (music, acting, sports) then it wouldn't be very fun going to the theater or ballgame. Besides, they can always be a Democratic candidate for something one day. They have the flip flopping part down pat!

I like their music, too. Hey, we have a few things in common. I have no idea if I'd like them as dinner guests. All I know is how they sound in recordings and what they look like after all their makeup is on.

Sinatra was one of the most brilliant pop musicians of all time. If his politics influenced my listening to his music, I would be poorer for it.

With what? For me, I don't care what a musician's personality is for me to enjoy his/her music. I'm sure Mozart was a bastard, but it makes little difference to me.

If I hate a person, I often have a hard time appreciating their output.

Then don't pay attention to their antics, so you can enjoy their music.

It's hard to do so when they saturate all of the mass-media with their stupidity.

Alley,
That is why you should rarely hate someone. I save my hate for child molesters and murderers and others who genuinely deserve it. If you hate someone because of their politics then you must be one unenjoyable person since our nation is split 50/50.

Wrong again Southerner, more like 71% folks who always understood this administration was a bunch of anti-constitution, anti-Americans, now understand this fact, or are finally beginning to get it, and 29% right wingnut apologists and radicals.

So more accurately, it's split 71/29.

If that helps you sleep at night. The bottom line is the 29% then have their man in the White House and the 71% are dolts who can't beat us. Either way you want to go with it I'll take it.

I'm glad we have polls otherwise you libs would be truly miserable with your failures.

(the sound of southerner's post going over ae35unit's head)

ae35unit-

Dubya's poll ratings has nothing to do with pary affiliations in this country. Southerner is right on this one. The country is basically split down the middle. Look at the 2004 election for one example of this.

But of course you "got it" all along. I guess I don't have to pat you on the back since you do it so well yourself.

And oh,

Alley hates someone for his/her politics?....your pulling my leg, right?

The truly sad thing is he justifies these feelings in his head.
