Actually, we had a pretty amazing weekend with a pile of friends down the shore. I didn't have any interest in politics until after college, really. But that's probably because I hadn't met many right-wing a-holes until then. Ahh, the bliss of ignorance... some of you are still enjoying it.

yup, only right wingers are a-holes. It is an absolute impossibility and logic defiant notion that left wingers can be the same, at least in notey's world....

I left my prom with another girl...long story...but the girl I ditched called about our 20 year reunion coming up next year, an organizer of the event...oh boy... did you ever get hit with an unexpected blast from the past and feelings of the shame at the same time?

Not pretty!!!

There was nothing in what Notehead said that precludes the existance of left wing a-holes. I believe you're trying to make something where there is nothing.

Notehead was raised in a bastion of left wing bliss. Where all are sure their beliefs are correct and outside (right wing) views are not tolerated. Paying high taxes to help the poor and misfortunate, attending elite universities and marrying amoung their own. He was not allowed to watch TV otherwise he might see a "right wing a-hole" like thoese in the White House. He was not allowed to watch Schwarzeneggar movies.

What a shock when he left college, left his cocoon and met the "right wing a-holes". He does not sterotype though, he was not raised that way. He knows they have tails and fangs.

Rastro-

Notehead implies it in his post. His post college "interest in politics" statement is very broad in nature but he is quick to the draw and precise to point out who he thinks the the a-holes are (right-wingers).

Funny, I can honestly state that most of the uptight jerks I met in life usually were left of the dial. When they weren't whining about something, showing off their intellectual wit with pyschobabble that only their inner circles pretend to understand, they were miserable to be around.

They couldn't enjoy life if they tried.

Nothing in his post implies that. You are reading too much into it. He wrote:

"I didn't have any interest in politics until after college, really. But that's probably because I hadn't met many right-wing a-holes until then." He probably had mat many a-holes. He just didn't think of them as a-holes for their politics. But I shouldn't be talking for Notehead. He's quite capable of defending himself.

Thanks, Rastro. I'm not gonna beat my head on the wall of SLK's and dougw's comprehension deficits, and you certainly don't need to either.

It's always amusing how a wingnut can't win an argument without putting words into his opponent's mouth. Happens here every single day.

Just because you're a right winger doesn't mean you're an a-hole. Two separate categories. Some people fit into both. I'm amazed at how sensitive these rough and tumble right wingers are.

Notehead are you really going to try to disassociate the words you used?

If there were some gay guys on your street making a lot of noise would you refer to them as "gay a-holes" no of course you wouldn't you would call them noiesy or rude or inconsiderate a-holes. Because you are not bigoted against gays. you do not want to associate the term a-hole with gay.

However you associate the word a-hole with right wing. I consider myself right wing so I take offense at the association that you made.

dougw, Right on, even though I lean right on many issues, I do not consider myself RW per se but can truly understand the offense taken.

Rastro, it is not about being sensitive, it is about hypocrisy.

Let's settle this the easy way.

Hey notehead, can leftwingers be a-holes?

Guys, read this as many times as you need to until you feel that you understand it.

Some right-wingers are a-holes.

Some left-wingers are a-holes.

Mentioning encounters with "right-winger a-holes" does not suggest that all right-wingers are a-holes. No, it doesn't. Really. Not even if you want it to so that you can act offended. Ask an English teacher.

Similarly, the phrase "right-winger ballerinas" does not mean that all right-wingers are ballerinas. (In fact, I suspect that very few are.)

Now, if you're ready to move to the next step... would the phrase "right-wingers are purple" suggest that ALL or merely SOME right-wingers are purple?

Perhaps Straw, who has posted the phrase "libs are morons" at least a thousand times, would like to proffer an answer.

cute notey cute...now he uses thword "some..."

"I hadn't met many right-wing a-holes until then..."

An exercise for you notey...read the above quote from you a thousand times out loud and try to figure out how it can possibly be misconstrued....

Go ahead now, it's not hard...

Pretty easy, SLK.

He had met many left-wing a-holes, but not right-wing a-holes.

He had met many right-wingers, but not right-wing a-holes.

He had not met many right wingers, nor had he met many a-holes.

You're right. It's not hard.

Yes, my phrasing can be misconstrued, as can virtually any written phrase, if you are sufficiently language-impaired. No doubt about it. Absolutely.

You know what misconstrued means, right? It means you made a mistake.

Glad we're on the same page now.

These are the the types of threads I love. We are all a big family of a-holes. Right or left it doesn't matter. We all also have enough worthless degrees between us to not educate a small country. Who cares! If Rastro wants to have prejudiced thoughts then it's fine by me. I have never understood why any poster cares what another poster thinks of him. I just don't get that. We are not friends. We are not enemies. We are just politically intersted people who have enough free time to post our collective crap so we many of us can believe we are making a difference. In my view, I am not trying to make a difference. I make a difference when I pull the lever for a candidate. Everything else is just fun. You guys can make fun of me and my posts all you want (see Sbenois's post of the year) but my blood pressure will never rise. Rastro, if you want to think that way then please continue.

Right on bro...

I am not writing my college thesis paper or getting paid to "write pretty" on these boards, so don't expect it.

These boards are like on-line porn. Get your kicks and jump off. No one ever said it wasn't going to be messy.

Correction. Studies show that people are more likely to admit to viewing online porn, than to reading MOL.

Southerner, perhaps you should improve your reading skills. I am not the one that made the statements people are upset about. I am simply clarifying them. If people cannot distinguish between nouns and adjectives, so be it. But please be sure to understand who is saying what.
