Here's my official announcement at making a run to get on the Independent ticket for Township Committee in November! All I need is signatures from anyone in Maplewood that has not signed petitions for the other candidates running in the primary. I will need the signatures by Tuesday. I will be getting around the village in the next few days to collect signatures. More info to come. So far, the half an hour I put into getting signatures has been very encouraging. |

Jamie automatically becomes a very viable candidate. He's got name recognition, he's truly independent, he grew up in Maplewood and knows the town inside out. In fact, given the right circumstances Jamie could be the Mayor next year and put an end the the circus that the local Dems have become.

Dave, if you move back to Maplewood, how will you establish residency for your run for Village President? Political dynasties - the Kennedy siblings, the Bush brothers, and now the Ross boys?

I happily signed Jamie's petition last night. And Joy, with all due respect, does Jamie need to clearly articulate his platform when other candidates, some who even get elected, never seem to? I too would like to hear or read his views on important matters (heck, Id love to see clear views from anyone sometimes) but I will give him time to finish scrambling for signatures first, especially since theres a good chance someone out there will challenge them. |

Hank (with all due respect) Jamie wants to run for TC. I'd like to know why and what he expects to accomplish. I don't think it should be too hard a question for him to answer, even now as he's collecting signatures. |

Look, it's enough to know that he is funny, so TC meetings will have more levity. And he organizes some kick-a** entertainment in town, so I bet the parties that come after the Town meetings will be really fun. And I bet he doesn't need to park for free behind Town Hall every day. |

SLK, it is almost always election season in Maplewood. We have board of ed elections, primaries, and general elections at three different times of every year. The next election is never in the distant future.

I finally met Jamie tonight (at the train station)and signed his petition. Seems like a pretty cool dude. He even asked where Scrotis Lo Knows originated from. I offered to be a "good little Republican" and forge other names on his petition so he wouldn't have to stand in the rain all night. He politely declined. I think he was sort of surprised I didn't have three heads. Good luck Jamie, it was honor to meet you. -SLK Now remember our deal, I signed your petition so no more banning me, ok? |

You don't have to support Jamie or his platform in order to sign the petition. It just gets him on the ballot. So, don't let his platform of regulating the number of houses on each block that can be painted the same color stop you from signing. |

Jamie, Can you, or somebody else, explain why one can't sign a petition to put you on the November ballot if they have signed a petition for a candidate in Tuesday's primary? Is my understanding incorrect that a primary candidate, upon losing the primary, cannot seek a petition slot on the November ballot because the filing deadline for petition candidate slots for the November election will have already passed by the primary election date? (Hence the urgency for your collecting the required number of signatures prior to primary election day). Also, weren't three of the five candidates in Tuesday's primary placed on the ballot by the official Essex County Democratic and Republican party organizations, as opposed to petitions? I am obviously misunderstanding something. Please provide whatever degree of enlightment you can. Thanks, TomR |
