WASHINGTON (CNN) -- U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, an elder statesman among liberal Democrats, slammed President Bush and his administration for going to war in Iraq based on political considerations.

In a speech Wednesday, Kennedy said the decision to invade Iraq was grounded in the "gross abuse of intelligence," an "arrogant disrespect for the United Nations" and the GOP's desire to seize control of both houses of Congress in 2002.

The senator from Massachusetts spoke to the Center for American Progress, a liberal advocacy group, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington.

He was flanked by Brian and Alma Hart, whose son John was killed in Iraq, and Army Sgt. Peter Damon, who lost both arms serving in Iraq.

Pathetic joke at end of informative note.
You can trust a Kennedy.
Just don't drive with one.

FOJ-

I agree with JD. Tasteless joke indeed. But I guess Damon is game because his opinion on Iraq differ from yours?

SLK - you dont understand the issue. Damon is claiming - in 2006, years after Farrenheit 911 - that he is mischaracterized as being anti-war. Yet he appeared with Kennedy in 2004 as someone who was hurt unnecessarily in this war of choice. Foj then shows that Micheal Moore has been instrumental in getting Sgt Damon a brand new home as part of the homesforourtroops organization by linking them to his site and therefore helping in their fundraising.

JDs joke was tasteless, old and tired. The right wing always pointing this out is pointless and not germaine to Foj's post.

The question is why is Sgt Damon suing Moore now, when without him he would have no house and be struggling within a depleted VA system.

That is a very interesting question. It's not unheard of for right-wing organizations to fund private lawsuits for the purposes of harrassment. See "Paula Jones" for a perfect example.

I'm not sure it's tasteless to say that the suit may not have legs when Damon lost his arms in Iraq. Now if you said something about him being an unarmed man, that would be in bad taste.

I am not right wing, just one who remembers 1969, and Teddy's prevarications, and the Bell system provider "losing" all phone records for the Kennedy compound on Chappaquidic (spelling challenged), as well as the newest drunk driving Kennedy.
At least I didn't say: don't go ski footballing with one of them, or private plane passengering, and, don't let Teddy pay you to take college finals for him.
I don't know if the "joke" is old, but do know it was all over San Diego on bumper stickers.
None here.
Because no one here has a sense of humor, unlike San Diegans.

There's not a lacking in sense of humor, it's just that not all jokes are funny.

jd - so your point is that San Diegans know what funny is? Ok, I guess you are correct about that one. After they have the Padres and the Chargers. And the zoo. And the Anchorman.

After that I cant think of one thing thats funny about San Diego.

and if you are not right wing then what are you?

In that case we must ask, if a joke isn't funny can you still consider it a joke?

The best joke I saw related to Chappaquidic was a fake Beetle ad from National Lampoon. It was a VW Beetle floating in a river. The caption read "If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagon, he'd be President today."

It originally appeared in the "Encyclopedia of Humor," but was pulled in later editions. A copy of the earlier edition is a valuable collector's item and, like my baseball card collection, was thrown out by my mother when I went off to college.

SLK, Would you get on that stage with Kennedy?

Please go thru the material I provided, Damon is supportive of Bush, then Kennedy, then Bush. Or something like that. He looks to be a flip flopper.
