Limbaugh Detained At Airport

(CBS4 News) WEST PALM BEACH Sources have confirmed to CBS4 News that conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been detained at Palm Beach International Airport for the possible possession of illegal prescription drugs Monday evening.

Limbaugh was returning on a flight from the Dominican Republic when officials found the drugs, among them Viagra.

Limbaugh entered a plea deal back in April in a previous case where his charge of fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions was dropped under the condition he continue undergoing treatment for addiction.

Limbaugh had admitted to being addicted to pain killers on his radio program and had entered a rehabilitation program prior to that arrest.

"addicted to painkillers"...why can't the media call it what it is...oxycontin...a time-released form of heroin?

Oops..Rush has "other" problems.

Rush Limbaugh was detained for about three-and-a-half hours Monday at Palm Beach International Airport after authorities said they found a bottle of Viagra in his possession without a prescription

Some of you are probably just jealous because the guy can score all the good drugs.

Maybe he should share some with Anne Coulter?

I'll agree with a lot of what's on here, but I hope the crack about oxycontin being heroin was made in jest because it's really stupid.

Dogbert,

Oxycontin is alleged to be as addictive/pleasurable as heroin.

I wonder how much time Rush will spend talking about this on his show? I'm guessing... NOT MUCH. Wassa matta, Rush, baby? Feeling a little flaccid? Well, "stiff" isn't one of the adjectives usually used to describe him.

The appeal of OxyContin, introduced in 1995, lies within a patented substance that bonds with its main ingredient, oxycodone, a widely used compound derived from opium. Opium is the main ingredient of heroin

I think this is no big deal. According to the reports I heard this morning he had a bottle of Viagra that did not have his name on it. - It had his DRs name on it. No big deal.

Is it against the law now to travel with drugs that are outside of the prescription vial you get from your pharmacy? Do we now have to prove to customs that personally prescribed drugs are valid by travelling with our prescriptions?

A bit overzealous by that customs agent I think.

Rush will probably get a huge Viagra promotion contract if he wants one.

He is on parole, more or less, so the standards are a little higher.

I think a descending slide flute would be the correct comical audio when they make his TV bio for the scene where a customs agent finds his medicine bottle.

Also, they could use "Third Stone from the Sun" played by a marching band for the patriotic moments of overweight bufoonery.

That sombee is rich, though. Private jet back from Dominican Republic. Cigars, viagra, strippers, divorces, drugs, and love of G W Bush and food.

You don't care because you have no standards. If it were Sam Seder or Al Franken you'd care a whole heckuva lot.

I take that back, you do have standards -- two of them!

The story linked above indicates that the only drug found was Viagra. Rush and his attorney claims it was obtained legally using a third name. This wackiness is, apparently, legal in Florida.

In any event Viagra is a long way from an opium based drug. This is more funny than sinister imho. :-)

I agree with Hoops, Rush will probably be doing Viagra commercials with Bob Dole by the end of the summer.

Rush Limbaugh is just funny. Not in the way he thinks he's funny necessarily, but his windbag persona is just impossible to take seriously. So any news that he makes is entertaining because he's inherently funny.

He made a recent appearance on a Heritage Foundation panel discussion in DC, talking about the program "24" and its connections to real-life counterterrorism:

Quote:

"You got lucky with 9/11 happening shortly after the show started." He quickly stopped himself, saying: "Sorry - not got lucky - bad choice of words."

For Dogbert....

From wikipedia...Oxycodone is a very powerful and potentially addictive opioid analgesic medication synthesized from thebaine...

Oxycodone has similar effects to morphine and heroin, and appeals to the same abuse community....

The introduction of OxyContin in 1995 resulted in increasing patterns of abuse. Unlike Percocet, whose potential for abuse is limited by the presence of acetaminophen, OxyContin contains only oxycodone and inert filler. Abusers either wash off the coating and crush the tablets to defeat the time-release mechanism, then either ingest the resulting powder orally, intranasally, via intravenous/intramuscular/subcutaneous injection, or rectally to achieve rapid absorption into the bloodstream. ...

and on and on

Notey,
I imagine Rush will talk about whatever he wants on his own show. Would you talk about your health issues if you had your own show. Why are you libs so jealous of Rush? He is a radio talk show host and you guys act like he is some sort of elected leader of something. The guy is entertaining and has laughed himself to the bank. Is this embarassing for him? Sure. But in the big picture he's been through much worse, but I will be sure to Tivo the comedy shows tonight.

now rush being caught with viagra is funny....

but please take Southerner's hint of advice. Get over Rush. you are doing exactly what he wants you to do you fools (hate and ridcule him)...

Dr. Boogie said :Not in the way he thinks he's funny necessarily, but his windbag persona is just impossible to take seriously. So any news that he makes is entertaining because he's inherently funny.

You can also apply this statement to Frnaken and his cronies at Air America, could you not?

maybe you could, but I couldn't. a big part of Rush's shtick is his bloviating self-importance. the "talent on loan from god," "America's truth detector," "Excellence in Broadcasting," etc. even among right-wing barking heads, he's unique in the pomposity of his presentation.

One can always have an "informed opinion".

Since this story broke, the news stories have told me more than I really needed to know about the Dominican Republic being a "hotbed" for "sex tourism".

Why did Mr. Limbaugh need those little blue pills to go to the Dominican Republic - just to sit on the beach and smoke cigars?

The point is, isn't it, that Rush and his ilk would spend hours and hours blowing such an incident up if it happened to a political enemy of theirs. And further that Rush is in the unfortunate (for him) hypocritical position of having (had?) a drug problem while at the same time railing against drug users.

Recent political battles seem to have shown that taking the high ground in the face of opponents' failings is a losing strategy, no?

The funny part, according to Oberman, is that Viagra is sold in 30 pill prescriptions. Rush had 29. And on his show he said he had "a good time" on his vacation. Apparently he did have a good time.

Obviously Oxycontin is a (synthetic) opiate and potentially addictive. Crabby called it "a time-released form of heroin" which is obviously not true, and even the Wikipedia entry says nothing of the sort.

I'm not making excuses for Limbaugh, who I consider a world-class jerk, but it's not worth telling any old lie in the pursuit of criticizing him. There's a huge difference between heroin and oxycontin.

Dogbert, stop down-playing this shi**y drug. There's a time release coating on oxycontin and abusers will crush the pills so that they get instant absorption through ingestion or snorting. It is highly addictive. It's an opiate, synthetic or not.

more from wikipedia (maybe you dind't read down this far)......Oxycodone has similar effects to morphine and heroin, and appeals to the same abuse community....Oxycodone does not "hit" the central nervous system with the same immediate punch as heroin and does not last as long. The subjective experience of a "high" was still reported for Oxycodone, however, and it made its way into medical usage in small increments in most Western countries until the introduction of the Oxycontin preparation radically boosted Oxycodone use.
