I can't believe I am hearing this. The right is going after Jon Stewart. They are using a "scientific" poll, (amazing they are using science for something) hearing some dude named John Hirsen, bemoaning the fact that the "exclusive source" of information of college students, is Jon. Are your guys for real? You can't shut off sources of criticism of a dying political party. He says the "cynicism is contagious" and the "danger is that it will turn them off from voting." OK, Straw, FVF....what's this about? At least this guy John Hirsen ended with a broad smile, when he implied Jon was for the "legalization of rape." Are we finally coming to the demonization of satire now? |

I caught the end of that report and thought it was VERY silly. Anyone who watches "The Daily Show" has to know something about the news or else they don't get what is being parodied. I would rather have my offspring see the news this way than not watch it at all! People on the right need to get a life! SouthOrangeMom

Ironic that the Right is using a POLL. Especially since, according to the Right, they are worthless. What morons. Makes it even more embarrassing to be American. |

The cop out on Rush's gross misrepresentations is always "Hey, he's an entertainer. Love him or hate him, he resonates with the American people." Jon Stewart actually IS an entertainer. |

I know several people who get all the news they need from the O'Reilly Factor and Rush's radio show. People actually rush home to see O'Reilly. Personally I think O'Reilly and Rush are funnier than Jon Stewart. The problem is they don't know they are funny most of the time. |

One's a comedian and admits his show is fake. THe other two are not comedians and pass their opinions off as truth. Most rightwingers don't have this figured out yet.

they have good reason to fear Stewart. when he or any other comedian points out the absurdity of their arguments, it undermines their entire ideological structure. the reality-averse Bush Administration could not survive if the citizens of this country woke up to the utter vacuity of the false logic that drives their politics. |

Jon Stewart IMHO beats his comedic punchlines to death and has no real redeeming comic value or sophisticated nuance, like say a Jerry Seinfeld. A one-trick pony of George Bush jokes. Consider him Dave Letterman-extra light. The political Napoleon Dynamite of the younger generation. My sense of the guy, frankly, is that if you could make a lot of money pandering to the republicans on the mass media, and most of the mass media was republican, he would be lambasting the dems instead. Just my opinion. He is "much miss TV" to me. Give me Letterman or Conan.

Bob K- O'Reilly is really putrid. Every time I see his mug on TV I think of him as " Loofah" Bill, if you happen to recall what his alledgedly sexual harassed former aide claims he said. |

Facts, I think you are wrong. Stewart is highly entertaining and hilarious. Rush's radio show boomed when Clinton won. Stewart has reached huge success with the help of Bush. Stewart will continue to be hilarious even if the Dems take over the Admin in 2008. He is smart and has great writers. He will lampoon either side. However, all we see his his humor at Bush's expense because Bush has been in office. I like Stewart and see him being fair. He goes where the jokes are. Anyone who gets upset with him or Rush or O'Reilly just don't get it politically speaking. All these guys are just entertainment. |

crabby- I have. He has excellent writers, but he is no Larry David or Jerry Seinfeld. I think he is one dimensional and lacks the wit of Letterman or even Conan. O'Reilly is too pompous. If I want "entertainment" I read the posts on MOL. |

Facts, I agree with your last post. Stewart is good but if you are going to compare him to those other giants then of course he falls short. I enjoy him for where he is. I agree he has become a one trick pony, but he found a trick that works and I don't blame the guy for riding it out. At some point he'll look for other opportunities and will probably succeed. In the meantime, he's paying the bills and getting some nice shots in at the admin. If us Repubs can't take it, then we ought to lose and let the barbs go the other way. I'd much rather take a few comedic shots and run the country than have it be reversed. |

You guys obviously don't watch that much. He skewers ALL. If they (dem or rep) say or do something stupid, it is pointed out. THe repubs these days, though, are doing most of the stupid things - they are running all sides of gov't so it stands to reason. Anyway, I can hardly wait til INDECISION 2008 really kicks in. |

True, Crabby. He does skewer all stupid, cowering, self-serving political maneuvers. But he is on the "politically correct" side of the spetrum. Not that there's anything wrong with that!! TOOOOO funny that the Right takes him so seriously! OOOOOOH the sky is falling! Larry David: now THERE's cynicism! |

Shana, Just because a poster on MOL takes him seriously doesn't mean the entire right does. Should I relate many posters taking Rush so serious as to mean the entire left does? We all have our own likes and dislikes. I like Stewart even though he is a typcially Jersey bed wetting lib. The guy is funny. But, I don't see his show being some big time breeding ground for the left. |

Southern- You should start the " Republicans for Jon Stewart Fan Club". I can take him in small doses, after which he gets too smarmy and cute to put up with. Frankly he better pray Jeb Bush gets in next so he can recycle those " Bush is a moron" jokes. |

fvf - you love to put Jeb Bush out as a viable Presidential candidate. He isnt. Two Bush presidencies is all the country gets. If the Bush family needs to get another offspring in there it will have to come from the next generation. The country is going to take a swing back to the middle once the disaster that of this president is done. |

The scary thing is that if Hillary Clinton is elected in 2008 and serves 2 terms, we will have spent 28 consecutive years with a President named Bush or Clinton. Will Jeb Bush follow in 2016? Let's hope not. Cheers |

Jeb will run one day and probably win. Florida brings a boat load of electoral votes, and unlike the Dems, the Repubs understand how to win. As for Stewart, I Tivo him every night and then watch/listen to the show after I get the kids to bed and am going through the mail/paying bills and the usual household routine. Of course, I disagree with a lot of his premises but the dude is funny and has captured the niche that many liberals could not (Franken, Maher). |

This is a perfect example of the lazy Democrats. Sure, we cheat. Therefore, you shouldn't do anything during the election cycle because no matter what you do it is futile. A true Dem, always looking for the easy route and simple solution. I love this mentality. |

Criticism of the humor of Jon Stewart on MOL is treasonous! Head writer David Javerbaum is a Maplewoodian, born and bred. But seriously, among Stewart's recent guests were Ken Mehlman and Bill Bennett. He disagreed with both of them but treated them with respect. He treated Howard Dean the same way. I don't watch O'Reilly. Has he had Dean or Clinton or Gore or Kerry on his show? How did he treat them? |
