Quote:The Bush Administration can’t really believe that these newspaper stories have undermined the battle against Al Qaeda; what’s more, it knows that over the decades papers like the Times have kept many stories and countless particulars secret when editors saw that it was in the interest of national security and military safety to do so. The Times banking story disclosed no leads, named no targets. To say that it risked lives is like saying that an article revealing that cops tap phones to monitor the activities of the Mafia is a gift to the Five Families of New York.

It's the political season Tom. Do you expect the Admin to just sit back and not seize opportunities? This was a great opportunity for the Pres to show outrage and paint the distinctive picture between the two parties. I know you understand this, but I guess you only believe the Dems should be allowed to play offense. I agree this revelation is nothing new, but I also agree the Repubs should use it for all it can on the political front. The Dems better get together and come up with a game plan quick. And Dean needs to tell his crew (CNN/NY Times/etc) to stop lobbing softballs for us. You won't see our conservative channels helping out the Dems but the NY Times sure is allowing POTUS to play the big city papers against rural America. And we know who wins in that scenario - hint, every state gets 2 Senators regardless of how "dense" they are, and even backwoods counties are allowed a Rep in the House. The Democratic momentum of 2005 is all but lost. I expect voter apathy in November which bodes well for incumbents and us Repubs. |

You call that "seizing an opportunity" as if it was a good ploy. Come on, now. What the administration seized was an opportunity to look like a bunch of desperate, grasping, defensive idiots, looking for ANY way to shift blame to somebody else. I'll admit that I've overestimated the intelligence of the voting public before, but I think that the more seizing of that nature that the GOP does, the better it will be for Dems in November. |

Desparation it is. Dr Dean has DNC paid staffers in all 50 states. And we are having a DEM volunteer "50 state" canvass on July 29th. DEM fundraising is keeping pace with the "r"s @ the National level. "R" Kansas lawmakers are turning into DEMs, it looks like Delay has to stay on the ballot in TX. Lieberman in CT is likely to lose the DEM Primary, that will be two less Bush Crime Family members. |

Notey and Foj, I like both of your passion. Thankfully, the proof will be in the pudding. If the Dems take over Congress then you will have finally been right in the 21st Centurty. If not, then it will just continue your streak of inept predictions. Notey, I'm as skeptical as you about this "opportunity" and I'm still voting Republican. Unlike you, I see the American people as being extremely smart (then again, the majority party always does and the minority party thinks they are buffoons). I believe the American electorate can see through our attempts at chicken little, and they can see through the Democratic attempts at chicken little. That is why I believe the Repubs will maintain Congress. The American electorate is so tired of your chicken little that they are numb and the Democratic message no longer resonates. At least when Bush cries the sky is falling people listen. As for Foj and the "50 state" plan, I can barely keep a straight face. I know it is rude to laugh in someone's face, but please. This is like the JV squad scrimmaging the Varsity. |

How can you be skeptical about this, think that the american people are extremely smart, and think they're going to fall for it? I think you can have 1 and 3, 1 and 2, or 3; but not all of them. |

I don't think the American people are going to fall for any of it. I think most folks realize Bush's bluster on this "revelation" is simply politics as usual. They also see the Sheehan's, Dean's, and Pelosi's of the Democratic casue as simply playing politics as usual as well. In the end, the American people have shown to be more aligned with the conservative movement and I don't see this changing in November no matter how much each side shows outrage. The American people see right through all this BS just like we here on MOL do. The Dems will get their typical urban class vote and us conservatives will get everyone else. Nothing has really changed since 2004 and the Republicans crushed the Dems. But I do enjoy seeing my Democratic friends on MOL get so excited. It's going to be Fitzmas all over again! |
