Hoops-

You even using the word Mensa in a sentence is an ambitious undertaking for you.

Congrats.

This just in: Finalists of the World's Most Condescending Pr*ck Competition will be announced soon. Rumor has it that FvF has this one sewn up. The trophy, a bag of elephant offal that has been carefully aged in a hot muddy ditch for 2 weeks, was painstakingly designed to convey the pleasantness of discussing a subject with the winner.

notehead-

Guess you don't like my viewpoints?

Or the inability to respond to them effectively got you too frustrated?

Awwww. Now I feel bad.

Now your post was humorous, elephant offal and all. Bet you have a lot of Bush jokes in your repertoire too. Have you sent a resume out to the Colbert show yet? They need you.

If I could give you a prize I would send you to Gaza to spend some quality time with Hamas. You could try and teach them to sing kumbayah with you, teach them to say " be about peace" in english, and explain all the great ideas you people have about world peace, mutual respect and religious tolerance. Forgive them if they laugh at you and explain what a "dhimmi" you are.

It's not politics, it's a war, dude.

And it's not Bush's fault.

Fact, your responses are starting to make Straw look like William F. Buckley.

One more thing:

The "moral authority" issue raised here, and some of the comments, are basically regurgitated democratic talking points.

That's fine, but the concept of having moral authority in dealing with other countries is nebulous in the extreme. The same applies to it's presumed effectiveness.

Most countries are guided by their self-interests in international affairs not
" what is right".

If the latter was the case, Darfur would have been a world priority and resolved a long time ago.

"Moral authority" to be it's most effective requires you have it with your
enemies.

Under the circumstances we face we would then realistically have to be a muslim nation and our leader a mullah.

The real aspect of this discussion then, is simply another opportunity to bash Bush as a failed leader by his usual detractors on MOL.

ae35unit-

I see the attack, where is the response from notehead?

Since I don't drink your kool-aide or theirs, shouldn't you try and convince me instead of preaching to the choir and logrolling as you guys always do on MOL?

If you can't convince people how do you expect to elect your candidates?

Show me you are right.

FvF, your assumption that my issue is with your "viewpoints" is a perfect illustration of your problem.

You seem unable to discuss anything without putting words into the mouths of others. You dangle strawmen so you can prolong your pontification. And you're rude, as if there really was a contest to see who could be the most condescending. Also, you (and others) seem FAR more concerned with winning arguments than with what's actually happening. I hope I'm wrong about that.

Someone with your apparent level of knowledge of a subject ought to be able to make their point without being a [rhymes with stick].

Southerner: Sorry, man, this ain't your contest. But I'm sure you're enjoying it.

If you want to understand real morality, read the historical Muslim institutional explanations of what to do with Jews, on earth, and in hell.

I don't know if we've lost our "moral authority," but I'm pretty sure the Bush Administration has absolutely no credibility. Does anyone around the world (excpeting of course the 35% of U.S. citizens who inexplicably still believe he's doing a good job), actually believe anything that comes out of Bush's mouth? Or Cheney's? Or any other prominent member of the administration, for that matter? That's a much more important deficiency than a loss of whatever one believes "moral authority" is.

Bush supporters should explain why any rational person living in another country of the world should believe Bush, particularly if the sentence were to begin "Our intelligence agencies have learned..."

A single life is priceless, especially to its holder (especially mine), but the loss of life has been rather low considering the volume of ordinance flying in both directions.

The Israeli's have known this confrontation with HBlah was going to erupt ever since they left Lebanon in 2000 and they have carefully been gathering intelligence ever since. They know what they're shooting at, though ceretainly neutrals are dying. What else is new, war is evil.

Even if you attribute zero humanity to Israel's leaders, you must realize it does them no good to intentionally kill neutrals and have pictures of wounded crying toddlers flying around the world. Notice, too, that I'm not using the word "civilian" since I'm not sure it has any meaning in a batle with a non-state guerilla organization.

Dr. Winston- So if it's not moral authority, you do know what I mean, obviously. This thread has unfortunately strayed into areas more likely to reveal the obsessions of Factvsfiction than much else. I'm astounded as to how many people even at 35% think this administration is anything but mind numbingly terrible. I can attribute it to the level that we Americans are unknowingly propagandized, but still don't quite get it.

You're right, say it your way, who in this government, except maybe a former president or something, has the credibility to intervene. Instead we get a never elected rich kid chewing a bread roll into an open mike. Truly Nero fiddling as the city burns.

notehead-

I think you are "projecting" in your post.

My sense is that many of you people of a liberal-progressive bent treat your politics as a religion, and people must agree with you in the absolute because you have the " one great truth". Open-mindedness is out the window.

If you think you, and people of a like mind, don't approach others with arrogance, smugness, condescension, and put-downs, well, you might need to check your posts. That's pretty much what I have seen here on each political discussion thread.

The majority of topics seem designed to support that good ol' politicial ideology and get "amens" from the fellow political holy rollers here.

Now that's ok, but don't crap on people who see things differently, especially as those are the people you need to convince to win significant elections.

People can have whatever opinions they want, but I do think it helps to actually educate yourself on a subject if you know nothing about it, especially the Middle East.

Some posters here have clearly framed their opinions from ignorance, and deliberatly re-hash it without availing themselves of the information provided by other posters. That's their call, but it should also ok to call them on it.

Reagan was more respected than Carter, ("Mr. Morality") by the Soviets and in the world.

The world did not explode on his watch.

Was Reagan a rocket scientist?

Guys, come on.

Lighten up on the progressive left kool-aide and open your minds.

Anything of your side is not automatically right, nor is everything from their side not automatically wrong.

Very frustrating to post here.

The fact of the matter is that the progressive left kool-aide drinkers have their minds wide open. We see what a total mess that this administration has made in all areas and we know that
a surplus was made into a deficit
a PDB was ignored on 8/5/2001 that warned of planes attacking buildings in the USA
a war was started on intelligence that was fit around the policy
the only thing that seems to be emergency in the administration is right to die cases like Terry Shiavo
no bills have been vetoed and the beaurocracy is growing more rabidly then any time in history
Republicans continue to blame Bill Clinton for all the wrongs even now 6 years into a full republican government
The supreme court has been stacked with judges who support a unitary executive
The citizens of the united states are being spied upon without warrants
The president signs laws and then makes signing statements saying that they dont apply to him
The congress of the united states does nothing to hold him to those laws.

Please tell us where the kool-aid is in those points.

sheesh, your responses seem increasingly brain dead with each passing day. why don't you check out the Bush JA trend, and report back on Bush's approval rating in 2004, and then compare it to now:

So what you're saying is that us 35% were able to run a better campaign and get the fence people to pull our lever. So, I guess I should prepare myself for a thrashing of my team by 65% to 35%. Or can we manipulate the fence people once again? Then again, no way could we do that. I mean the Dems have 65% in their pocket. I guess Speaker Pelosi, I mean, Speaker Murtha is in my future.

FvF: I don't know what you know about the middle east but I wonder what biography of Lincoln you read to conclude:

Abe Lincoln, quite a failure in life,

Started off in a log cabin, raised in very poor family, parents illiterate, had hardly any formal education, and ended up, before becoming President, as one of the leading lawyers in Illinois and the West.

hmmm Southern Man, let's go back to my initial post and see if I was saying ANYTHING about elections:

Quote:

I don't know if we've lost our "moral authority," but I'm pretty sure the Bush Administration has absolutely no credibility. Does anyone around the world (excpeting of course the 35% of U.S. citizens who inexplicably still believe he's doing a good job), actually believe anything that comes out of Bush's mouth?

nope, nothing in there about elections, especially not about elections held two years ago. you are so unable to write anything original that you're trying really really hard to force everything anyone else says into your only template. from here forward if you want to do that, you can argue with yourself.

I should be able to win that one.

And if you want to feel so superior then let me make an observation. Your statement is a complete load of crap then. I will guarantee there is at least one person outside of the 35% in the U.S. who believe something he says. I'm sure someone will agree that Russia and China are big countries. Your posts have become so sophomoric and ridiculous. And let's face it, the only reason you brought up the 35% was to make yourself feel better about getting whipped in everything that matters. You Dems are so depressed with your pathetic party that you are now programmed to make yourselves feel better. I'll take the 35% knowing we can come up with the other 16% to keep you guys whining for another two years.

You are right that the Dems run pathetic campaigns. You are right that many liberals are better at whining than winning. You are right that the Dem leadership is in sad shape.

But will you admit that there is something wrong cognitively with the president?

dave,
Listen. We all have flaws. Bush isn't perfect and he is not the best at hiding his flaws. However, I think this is part of his appeal. Regular people can relate to him. Whether it's public speaking or answering spontaneous questions, we've all been there when we could have done a better job. Unfortunately for Bush we only see him during these times. Do I think he is cognitively challenged? No. I don't think he is genius either. He's a regular guy who ran and won twice for President. He is a proponent for the same views I have and is an opponent of what your views probably are. Therefore, I will minimize his mistakes and you will maximize them. It's all politics. What I love (here I go) is how the Dems constantly belittle him, but yet they can't stop him. If I were continously whipped in a game of one on one basketball, I would find it difficult to tell my opponent he has an ugly jump shot, because he'd probably answer me by asking if it went in the net! Don't worry, in another 2 and a half years you'll have another Republican POTUS to make fun of.
