All everyone does is just re-hash their own beliefs maybe just changing a few words now and then. People don't find common ground, they just continuously insult the "other side". Has anyone ever been convinced differently from their original opinion? I highly doubt that. Are you guys bored yet? |

I think we need this section so that we can draw attention to the dangers of people who seek to needlessly regulate the relativity harmless pursuits of other people. |

Big Poppa, if you find that the politics section is too much for your sensibilities then dont go here. I think that the exchange of ideas and arguments with people here are not overboard. I find that people on this section are quite interested in the direction that the world is taking and this site gives them the opportunity to express themselves. The purpose here is not to come to agreement, nor is it to convince someone of something. Indeed both of those things might happen (when pigs fly) and have happened in small doses from time to time. In all this section is far from boring, but if you are bored by it then please look elsewhere for your entertainment. Perhaps the Virtual Cafe is more to your taste. |

"All Politics" is MOL's paint-ball range. Usually harmless firing back and forth, with the occasional participant who goes over-the-top, and needs a "time-out". If it wasn't here, a lot of this would just spill over into some other category. "All Politics" helps to keep the rest of MOL relatively sane. Well, except for "South Orange Specific" ... |

Big Poppa, I think you are incorrect. I do believe that at least some people learn something from this message board. For myself, I occasionally pick up bits of wisdom. Some people keep repeating the same balderdash over and over, never respond in an intelligent way to opposite points of view, and are a general pain in the a**. The extremists on both sides of the political spectrum are good examples. But most of us do listen to opposing points of view, and learn a thing or two from them. |

"All Politics" is a hoot, especially when there are posts from people who can neither write nor think clearly. Then one wonders about the value received for the funds spent on expensive private or ineffective public education. And we all merely re-state our points of view, regardless of the situation---it reminds of W.H. Auden speaking about "our rehearsed responses." But let's keep "All Politics" until we grow tired of it. Or until one or the other of the two major political parties in this country succeeds in implementing lock-step group-think. And in my opinion, that's more likely to happen under the Republican Party (There I go re-stating my point of view and my "rehearsed response") |

I think this section exemplifies public debate. Sure it's messy and can become mean-spirited, but it's the backbone of democracy none the less. If you don't like it, don't go here. Democracy is also about having the right to say, "I don't care" and moving on. |

I think you generally have two schools of thought in this section. A) People who think like me. B) morons. That's about it. |

I have had some of my own beliefs clarified and strengthened. This happens either from people who are more eloquent than I am or from being able to express myself. I have also changed my views because of what I read here.

Thanks for the laugh, Strawberry! There are two types of people in this world: those who divide the world into two types, and those who don't. And to paraphrase George Carlin, anyone who drives slower than I do is an idiot. Anyone who drives faster than I do is a maniac.

I think that it's time to acknowledge that the Florida sun has fried Strawberry's brain cells, and that only several of them are still functioning, those having to do with rote activities. I used to think it was because he didn't BENEFIT from a good education. Naaaaah, upon reflection...I think that it's both reasons. |

so, I was able to find common ground for you guys? Seriously, the board was getting a bit personal and I'm glad to see you guys are on good terms. I actually read many of the threads and have learned a lot. It really would be nice to see more "you know, you make a good point" comments (other than just from Tom Reingold. |
