In light of the latest conflict in the Middle East I found this oddly related
(and here much shortened) article of enough interest to share (particularly the last paragraph):
___________________________________
Ireland Worker Finds Ancient Psalms in Bog
By SHAWN POGATCHNIK, Associated Press Writer. DUBLIN, Ireland

- "Irish archaeologists Tuesday heralded the
discovery of an ancient book of psalms by a construction worker who spotted
something while driving the shovel of his backhoe into a bog.
The approximately 20-page book has been dated to the years 800-1000.
Trinity College manuscripts expert Bernard Meehan said it was the first discovery
of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries.

The book was found OPEN TO A PAGE describing, in Latin script, Psalm 83, in which
God hears complaints of other nations' attempts to WIPE OUT THE NAME OF ISRAEL."
__________________________________________________

(I have shortened the above article to the most salient points).

Here is where is gets even a bit more interesting. I sent the article to a friend
and she asked me, "What was God's reply?" (to the "complaints").

I thought perhaps that she was testing me so I looked it up.
The Lord seems pretty quiet on the subject having no statement at the
time that I can discover (unless I'm missing something. He may have taken
the question under advisement).

Of additional interest however within the same Psalm is
Psalm 83: 6 and 7 which, in referring to all the enemies who are
"confederate against thee [Lord]" lists:
7: "Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek, the Philistines with the
inhabitants of TYRE" (the town of Tyre has of course been featured quite
prominently in the latest conflict. Apparently those bastards are
still hanging out there).

Hmmm, this all seems so familiar. Perhaps for ANOTHER thousand years
or will it all go up in a flash? Prepare for the Rapture!

-Until then I'm going to run some errands.

This just in, the construction workers discovered an additional psalm this morning. See below.
______________________________________________________________________________

Rapture

Toe to toe
Dancing very slow
Barely breathing
Almost comatose
Wall to wall
People hypnotised
And they're stepping lightly
Hang each night in Rapture

Back to back
Sacrailiac
Spineless movement
And a wild attack

Face to face
Sadly solitude
And it's finger popping
Twenty-four hour shopping in Rapture

Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's high
DJ's spinnin' are savin' my mind
Flash is fast, Flash is cool
Francois sez fas, Flashe' no do
And you don't stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and you drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night, eatin' cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercurys and Subarus
And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars
Then, when there's no more cars
You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet
Face to face, dance cheek to cheek
One to one, man to man
Dance toe to toe
Don't move to slow, 'cause the man from Mars
Is through with cars, he's eatin' bars
Yeah, wall to wall, door to door, hall to hall
He's gonna eat 'em all
Rapture, be pure
Take a tour, through the sewer
Don't strain your brain, paint a train
You'll be singin' in the rain
I said don't stop, do punk rock

Well now you see what you wanna be
Just have your party on TV
'Cause the man from Mars won't eat up bars when the TV's on
And now he's gone back up to space
Where he won't have a hassle with the human race
And you hip-hop, and you don't stop
Just blast off, sure shot
'Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars and eatin' bars
And now he only eats guitars, get up!

Ireland may have become the Celtic Tiger during the past few years, but a Shawn Pogatchnik writing AP copy in Dublin????????? About as likely as an Inuit being elected mayor of Coral Gables. And a 20 page book at a time when Irish monastics were producing glorious parchment documents? Give me a break.

As a segue, Newt Gingrich has been busy pandering to his Fundamentalist audience about WWIII (this being one of those coded nods to the freak Christian movement), and he has AOG'ers and SBC'ers fairly wetting their nickers in glorious anticipation.

Hallelujah!Hallelujah!

This just in:
Inuit elected mayor of Coral Gables.

Also, Shawn Pogatchnik has been writing on/from Ireland for quite some time (easy to Google, as is the "bog story"). Oh ye of little faith. Prepare.

I bow to you, but that Inuit story is a red herring.

Said the newly elected Mayor:

"I love it here. I don't know if you've been told but where I come from everything is mighty cold."

Meanwhile, Jerry Falwell now seems to believe the Armageddon is nigh yet continues his long-term building plans at Liberty University. Ya know, just in case.

Well, Falwell will probably be a very disappointed guy three days after Tim LaHaye dies.

Tim LaHaye will be back after he dies--he, of course, will be one of the saved.

After reading/posting Psalm 83:7 referencing "the inhabitants of Tyre" as being among those who wish to "wipe out the name of Israel" I clicked on the NY Times front page.

Found this photo below with the caption: "People in Tyre, Lebanon, gather at the rubble of a building that was destroyed by an Israeli warplane."
tyre.jpg

Not to overly add weight to it but somehow after having discovered the reference after it had been (in a sense) "highlighted" by the discovery in Ireland of the Psalm book it just sends home to me how utterly ancient and enduring this conflict has been and shall likely remain.

No. Deep down it's airless too which tends to preserve things. A museum in Ireland has several VERY old bodies on display that sunk way down and got mummified. Plus the book was on thin calf skin, not paper. Amazing the writing lasted though.

If this topic was about sex I would have posted it in the "Arts and Entertainment" section.
(better that than "Please Help" or worse, "Home Fix-It")

The experts say that if the guys who found the book hadn't made the intelligent decision to re-cover it with mud and instead allowed it to dry out, it could have literally turned to dust overnight. As it is, they will have to study the book for months to determine how best to separate the individual pages without destroying them.

Another Twilight Zone connection/coincidence:

St. Malachy's Papal Prophecies Still Accurate from 1140 to present

St Malachy was an Irish lad from about 1100 so maybe he had read your "bog book" and he was endowed with the gift of prophecy. Most important of all of his prophesies was one concerning the succession of the Popes—from Pope Innocent II (who became pontiff in 1140) to the pope who will follow John Paul II—the last Catholic pontiff. According to his prophecy, the line of popes will end, abruptly, with the next pope. He was described in the prophesies of St. Malachy as Gloria Olivae (the glory of the olive). During his reign, peace will descend over the Mideast.

It was long thought that this prophecy meant that this Pope would come from the Benedictine order of priests because the order is also known as the Olivetans. Although Cardinal Ratzinger is not a Benedictine, it may be the fulfillment of prophecy that when elected Pope he chose the name Benedict XVI. And "traditionally, the olive branch has been associated with peace, and in both the Old and New Testaments it also serves as an emblem for the Jews." So will Benedict XVI bring peace for the Jews?

And the Mayan calendar says the world will end on Dec 21, 2011....so buy really nice presents for Christmas and Channukah in 2010 just in case!!

Are you ready?
