Nearly five years after 9/11, our great friends in the UK put all of the pieces together and sniffed out a diabolical plot to kill thousands of people and stopped it.

Why?

Because of the great leadership of our beloved President George Bush and the equally great leadership of Tony Blair, that's why.

It's at times like these that I harken back to the message first offered to us by Peter Frampton in 1974...

Who can I believe in?
I'm kneeling on the floor
There has to be a force,
Who do I phone?
The stars are out and shining, but all I really want to know...
Oh won't you show me the way
I want you ...show me the way

Please continue to show us the way George. Every day.

Thank you Mr. President. Thank you Tony.

Yes, Mr. Bush is fighting terrorists in Iraq so that we don't have to fight them here.

What's that? You mean the terrorists got here anyway? Are you trying to say George is incompetent? I think he's doing a great job. He raised the alert to Agent Orange, didn't he? What more do you want him to do?

Well, Caffrey,

For one thing, he could bring back the duct tape and plastic sheeting.

I received only lesson 1 in that in Tom Ridge's tenure.

Perhaps 43 and Chertoff could resume the lessons. I need to use up all this duct tape.

You gotta give kudos to the brits on this one, no doubt.

I question what if anything GWB had to do with this particular event. I certainly don't see any tie to Iraq. I haven't heard of any direct US involvement in uncovering this plot. Maybe I missed that.

I certainly wish we had followed through in Afghanistan, maybe the plot never would have even gotten this far in the first place. But it's easy to speculate isn't it.

The situation is what it is, and thank goodness we're reading these stories and not stories about blown up and crashed planes. People have been working hard to uncover this plot and there's a time to stop a moment and say 'well done.'

I'm not sure how these arrests are related to any policy of President Bush.

I mean, did we learn about the plot by water-boarding some guy who's been at Gitmo the last three years?

Maybe we'll learn more about this in a few days.

What we learned today
1) Bush and Cheney were notified of this by the Brits a week ago. Some rhetoric came out of Cheneys office on Wednesday saying that we have to be vigilant because the ocean cant protect us, yada yada yada. So once again the administration is not above taking the threat reports and turning them into politics.

2) The attacks were not planned for yesterday or even today. There was to be some kind of proof of concept/dry run testing and the terrorists had not yet gathered all the ingredients.

3) Pakistan played a major role by notifiying the Brits that they had a suspect in custody who told them of the plot. Obvously Musharaf has more to lose then we do from terror groups like al Qaeda.

4) The methodology of this plan has been tried as early as 1999 and so the question is why have the airlines security been so slow to ban these liquids? Locking the cockpit door had done wonders for security but it seems that this ban could have been in place already. They knew there was a risk.

anyway thanks for keeping us safe intelligence agencies.

So why be thankful to GWB?

Seems we should be thanking Pakistan and the Brits on this one.

Please continue to show us the way George. Every day.

I think Sbenois is GOP Man.

The investigation started based on a tip from inside the Muslim community and the hard work of investigators. I'm not sure what Bush or Blair has to do with either.

British security services did their job. Would have done the same thing under Blair's successor-to-be Gordon Brown or Conservative leader David Cameron.

Bush and Blair had nothing to do with the operation and any political grandstanding over it should be exposed for what it is.

I like Tony Blair. He's a friend of ours, a trustworthy ally, a man of convictions, a leader in the time of turmoil and a respectable man!

"a man of convictions"

What convictions might they be?

Americans do like Tony Blair, but the word in England is, as he's so unpopular there, that he will move here and take a job in the U.S.

What convictions might they be?

The source of the intelligence that caught the terror group came from the Muslim community in England. Obviously, they too have convictions.

The conviction to stand with America against ignorance, hatred and terrorism. Fanaticism is our enemy.

Bush is so concerned about fighting terror, in reaction to the news of the terrorist arrests in Britain, he immediately boarded a plane back to Washington for a day of briefings, and meetings with intelligence officials to make sure the Western world stays on top of the bad guys in the days to come and in the future.

Ha. Just kidding.

He boarded a plane for a GOP fundraiser in the midwest.

"The conviction to stand with America against ignorance, hatred and terrorism"

Ignorance- approximately 50% of Americans think we found WMDs in Iraq- that look's like blatantly obscene ignorance to me

Hatred?- where do I begin

Terrorism- then why did he invade an unarmed country that had nothing to do with terrorism against the U.S.?

I think he has the conviction to be on the board of the Carlyle Group, that's about it.
