Comments? While resigning, Farber defends her conduct As she announced her resignation this evening, Attorney General Zulima Farber continued to defend her actions, saying she did not ask for special favors for herself or her boyfriend, Hamlet Goore, when she went to the scene of Goore's traffic stop in May. Farber resigned, effective Aug. 31, after a special prosecutor issued a report concluding she violated state ethics rules by going to Goore's aid. Gov. Jon Corzine, who had pledged a zero tolerance policy for ethics infractions in his administration as a candidate, praised Farber's decision to step down as the two made the announcement side by side at a press conference in the governor's office in Trenton. Corzine said Farber "has decided to do more than might ordinarily be required for a lapse in judgement and to make a larger personal sacrifice for the greater good." Farber said she did not believe the special prosecutor's report compelled her to resign, but that she did so out of respect for the governor. "Anyone who knows me knows that I relish a good fight. In this case, however, there is too much to be done and such a fight would be a tremendous distraction," Farber said, adding that the ongoing controversey would make it impossible for her to do her job. |

Not a big corzine fan, but it seems like he's doing the right thing, not only canning those who act improper but those who do not avoid the appearance of impropriety. Yes, I realize most NJ politicians would have to resign if that standard were upheld, but it is a start. I hadn't heard about this, a little research turned up this nugget in the DailyRecord. "The real problem is that Farber, who has a history of traffic violations and ignoring court mandates, should not have been appointed in the first place." Also, this ..."Compounding her problem is a state audit of the state Board of Public Utilities, which regulates New Jersey utilities. It has reportedly revealed a $100 million bank account outside state control. This raises two questions: Who is using the money, and why is a bank account of a state agency outside state control? Farber, as head of the state's Justice Department, should be able to help answer some of those questions. If nothing else, she could make the audit public. It's not a good thing for the BPU to have a $100 million seemingly secret account. Farber's stubbornness in making the audit public has lasted for weeks; unless she seeks to clear up this matter forthwith, the governor should request her resignation." Article written on 7/26/06. Seems like letting her submit her resignation was a kind gesture on Corzine's part, she should have been axed. Maybe Corzine's different, most NJ politicians - Dem and Rep - let her stay.
