Hi Nancy. I'll gladly join your simultaneous thread, as I can't erase mine anymore. It is more than just anti-Semitism, as in anti-Jewish stuff. Andy outdoes Mel by going after Arabs and Koreans as well. And then he has the gall to say in effect that "what plays in Atlanta or Topeka or Chicago is taken differently in LA or New York." Right, this from the man who was once thought to be presidential material, who represented the US at the UN in, horror of horrors, New York City, who has consorted with and raised money from Hollywood stars. And, I gotta wonder, if it is first the Jews, then the Arabs, and then the Koreans, are they all in league to get the African-Americans? Is there some grand cabal running the country that says, okay, the Jews have dominated enough, now it is the Korean's turn? Next it will be the Russians? You would think that by now Andy Young would have had the time and insight to look into the historical and sociological reasons for this instead of laying the blame on other ethnic groups. That would be a more enlightening and engaging controversy for him to start. |

Bizarre, wrong behavior on his part. What on Earth was he thinking? It's also appalling that he became a Wal-Mart shill. If he's concerned about lack of African-American ownership of local businesses, Wal-Mart will cut that off root and branch in a way the various ethnic groups never would have considered. From a version of the script for "Do The Right Thing" is pertinent Quote: ML Look at those Korean mother****rs across the street. I betcha they haven't been a year off da mother******g boat before they opened up their own place. CLOSE--COCONUT SID COCONUT SID It's been about a year. CLOSE--ML ML A mother******g year off the mother*****g boat and got a good business in our neighborhood occupying a building that had been boarded up for longer than I care to remember and I've been here a long time. CLOSE--SWEET DICK WILLIE SWEET DICK WILLIE It has been a long time. 36. CLOSE--COCONUT SID COCONUT SID How long? CLOSE--ML ML Too long! Too long. Now for the life of me, I haven't been able to figger this out. Either dem Koreans are geniuses or we Blacks are dumb. This is truly a stupefying question and all three are silent. What is the answer? COCONUT SID It's gotta be cuz we're Black. No other explanation, nobody don't want the Black man to be about . SWEET DICK WILLIE Old excuse. ML I'll be one happy fool to see us have our own business right here. Yes, sir. I'd be the first in line to spend the little money I got. Sweet Dick Willie gets up from his folding chair. SWEET DICK WILLIE It's Miller time. Let me go give these Koreans s'more business. ML It's a shame. COCONUT SID Ain't that a b***h.

Andy Young got in trouble while mayor of Atlanta for offending Irish folks by referring to the police vans as "paddy wagons." |

I don't have words for how disappointed I am with Mr. Young. Stupid, stupid, stupid. If he wanted to make points for Walmart all he had to say is that the small, local stores provide fewer benefits than Walmart and pay the same or less while charging generally higher prices.

Young introduced a ethnic/racial component on mom-and-pop stores (some of which is true) that generally have to charge higher prices than Walmart (which is true) and linked it to substandard products with the implied intent to sell at high prices (which is false). That's what the problem is. You can get 'bad meat and wilted vegetables' in any store -- big or small. |
