A BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT Though the Bush Administration's official budget lists the national debt and deficit as being incredibly high, they are actually far worse than reported, according to Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN). But don’t just take his word for it, even if Cooper is a Rhodes Scholar and Harvard Law graduate. The following figures appear in the official U.S. Financial Report, released by the Treasury Department. -The true national debt is $49 trillion, not the $8.3 trillion Bush reported -That's $156,000 for every citizen, or $375,000 for every working American -This figure has more than doubled in the past five years -We paid $327 billion last year on interest alone -The true 2005 deficit was $760 billion, not the $318.5 billion Bush reported -This is 6.2% of the GDP, not 2.6% -It's all getting worse More here: http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/alerts/105 based on this US Treasury report: http://www.fms.treas.gov/fr/index.html Coupled with claims of: -U6 figures of 12% unemployment -2% contraction of GDP -Housing going down -Wages not keeping up with Inflation for 30 yrs. -Gas prices doubled over the last 5 yrs. If you take a serious look at the report it matches the Doom and gloom numbers. Which contradict what the Bush Crime Family (Enron) claims. I wonder if President Nancy Pelosi will nominate Bill CLinton as US Sec. of the Treasury in 2007?

The economy is sizzling and to try and claim otherwise is as silly as when Republicans claimed the economy in the 1990s wasn’t really that strong because of slow growth. I will agree that Republican spending is totally out of control and they have lost any claim to fiscal responsibility. Unfortunately, there has never been a Republican spending bill that the Democrats would not have liked to add a zero to – along with raising taxes. More importantly, both parties are living in a fantasy world with regard to the entitlement spending elephant in the room. The Democrats fantasize that we will be able to cover our future unfunded obligations with small tax increases and the Republicans fantasize that we will grow our way out of this looming disaster. When the entitlement monster, by itself, becomes greater than our total current budget, that will be a real economy killer and both parties will be responsible.

3 out of 4 for Foj. Foj, Let's face it. The Republicans are turning this election into a national security debate instead of an economic and Iraq debate. This is where Dean and the boys will earn their money. Let's see what they do to turn it back in their favor. Otherwise they are as weak as McAuliffe. |

Interesting that you should draw a distinction between national security and Iraq. |

tom, Come on, pay attention. I've never said Iraq was a national security issue. I'm glad we did it, and I'm glad Bush took advantage of his position to do it. I'll let all of you argue the minutae everyday for 6plus years as to the "reasons" we went to Iraq. To me it's fairly simple - the President wanted too! And it's his call which you libs can't stand. I'm just glad I have a Pres who does want those of us who voted for him wanted him to do. You guys are just jealous that your boy Clinton didn't do this. |

It's not his call, at least it isn't if we still live in a Constitutional democracy. |

tom, I agree. Unfortunately for you true libs, you saw the imposters in your midst. How many so called libs voted for the war? I completely understand your frustration with Bush and the neo-cons because you disagree with us politically, but I'll never understand how elected liberals who vote like neo-cons continue to be loved. These guys are simply running a shell game on you liberal voters and they are laughing just like us neo-cons are. |
