I have to give Russert lots of credit for not wearing his orange hunting vest. It's always risky to get in a room with Elmer. Russert sure tried hard to break him and had lots of videos and quotes ready for the attack, but Elmer has a very effective way of deflecting issues through triple-talk that disregards the facts. From a P.R. perspective I think Bush will be happy with Elmer's performance. And it's pointless to discuss it from a reality perspective because the White House doesn't deal in that realm anyway. |

Did Russert ask the big question...about the involvement of Hussein in Al Qaeda and Cheney's contention of the meeting in Prague? I'm listening, but there seems to be no question from Russert. Isn't this the most important matter currently? |

That Russert is such a card. His last question: Should I be relieved that you didn't bring in your shotgun today? Cheney: You're not in season.

Transcript: CHENEY: You’ve got Iraq and Al Qaeda, testimony from the Director of C.I.A. that there was indeed a relationship — Zarqawi in baghdad. et cetera. Then the RUSSERT: The committee said there was no relationship. in fact saddam — CHENEY: I haven’t seen the report. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. RUSSERT: But Mr. Vice President the bottom line is… CHENEY: We know that Zarqawi running the terrost camp in Afghanistan prior to 9/11. After we went in after 9/11, then fled and went to Baghdad and set up operations in Baghdad in the spring of 2002 and was there and then basically until the time we launched into Iraq. http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/10/cheney-cites-zarqawi |

Not to worry. Dante's constructing a brand new ring in hell for Cheney and his neo-con compatriots. The thing is, Cheney is one of those characters that has no shame, so having Russert question him and try to have him defend himself is so unsatisfactory. He'll just twist details and invert reality.

I taped "Meet the Press" while I went walking. Didn't know who was on. When I began playing it back I decided not to watch. I remembered what author Mary McCarthy said about author Lillian Hellman (which ended up being the subject of a play) "Every word she writes is a lie, even 'the' and 'and'." |

I watched the excerpt. Wow. The bipartisan Senate committee said that U.S. intelligence not only found no connection between Saddam and Zarqawi, but in fact Saddam was trying to hunt him down. Cheney has to know this, and has to have known it long before the Senate report made it public. Yet, Cheney goes on television this morning, denies this, and says that he hasn't read the report. First, who really believes that he didn't look at it? More important, with his statements this morning Cheney has provided incontrovertible proof that he is an unconscionable liar. |

What westside said. It's pointless to try to nail his arguments to the wall when they are like jello. They'll flow around any nail.

First, who really believes that he didn't look at it? Me. Why should he read it? He already knows what he thinks. He has his position and he is sticking to it! |

Putting Tim Russet in the ring with Cheney is like putting the "Greatest American Hero" against Superman. No fing contest. You may disagree with VP but you must give him credit, he can debate with the best of them and sure can hold his ground. I was listening to the podcast on my run this morning and burst out laughing when Cheney asked Russet "what is it that you don't understand, Tim?" Whack! Tim was desperately trying to corner the VP, dumping useless poll numbers on him, trying to revise history and even tried to get Cheney to indirectly admit to some kind of US Military response against Iran and N. Korea! Give it up Tim, you have a good stage presence, great voice, but you just can't debate... -SLK BTW, at the end of the show, Tim told us to remember all the "Men, women and children" that died on 9/11. The children thing struck me as sort of odd. Did any children die that day?

There were a number of children travelling on the planes. Christine Hanson was 2 years old. |

Project 37- An oversite on my part, my apologies. My mind tend to forget that there were people on those planes. By no means do I mean any disrespect. -SLK |

No need to apologize and no disrespect perceived, SLK. An honest oversight, so Russert's closing statement served a purpose in that respect. |
