I was watching Carville on Leno and I started to think about the next election. Can anyone tell me the last time (if ever) a lame duck pres had a VP that was definitely not running? There are going to be @@@loads of people running for pres! If Hillary runs, are they gonna run Condoleeza as Pres (or probably less frightening for the extreme right, as VP!) to drain the black vote that the dems need? I'm interested in your opinions. |

Callista, you are my type of poster. You ask a big picture type question which I enjoy. You are right. There are going to be a boatload of people throwing their hat in the ring early from both parties. This is going to be a highly entertaining political season before they get dwindled down. I have no idea what the Repubs will do and I'm sure the leaders don't either. That is why they have primaries. For the Dems, it comes down to Hillary's wishes. If she wants it then she will have it. The Repubs have to many "potential" candidates for me to give anyone of them the early nod. We have seen recently that picking a candidate to early by a party leaves them in the loss column (Gore, Kerry, Dole). Waiting by a party has paid off (Clinton, Bush). It's going to be interesting to watch unfold. I think ultimately Hillary will be the Dem nominee and the Repubs will have either McCain or Rudy on top of their ticket, but a lot can happen in 2 years. As for draining the black vote, are you serious? Did the Republicans drain votes with Bush/Cheney twice? Yet, they won. It's a little early for you Dems to play the race card. Save it for 2008. |

I don't see Hillary getting the nomination, too many Dems think that she's a losing bet. Kerry won't get it again, he screwed up '04 too badly and his recent "discovery" that voting in Ohio was suspect just proves his lameness. Where was he election night with this? My money would be on Al Gore (after all, he one once already ) or Mark Warner. |

tom, I agree. I just believe that Hillary has the power brokers of the DNC on her side. I beleive if she wants it then it's hers. Of course, Gore could be a serious outside influence. Of course, I want Hillary and Gore to go at it and for Gore to pull a Lieberman if the DNC rebuffs him. And if he actually gets the nomination then I may be able to relive a second time the greatest single political move of my lifetime, which was watching Gore concede. I know it doesn't make me a big person, but come on, if that were Bush conceding after flapping in the wind for a month you libs would have eaten it up. I would love to see Gore run again only to concede again. Besides, I don't think ole Al will run again because he is in such poor physical shape. If he were serious he would have hit the gym a time or two. But I'm hoping for a Hillary/Al dogfight. Believe me, I know us cons will probably have a bloodbath which will leave our frontrunner a little bloody so of course I don't want an unscathed Dem winning the nomination. Of course, Hillary and Gore have enough skeletons in their closets that I'll have to find my mid 1990 playbook I have stored in the garage. |
