T minus 7 days and counting

My personal journey to the Republican National Convention starts in 7 days. The plan is to take the train to New York City on Saturday August 28th with one tightly packed bag, complete my logistical training, check into the hotel provided within the secure perimeter, and participate around the clock in the convention right through my final day of duty on Friday September 3. The Convention technically starts on Monday and ends on Thursday, but there is pre-lim stuff on Sunday and "clean up" on Friday.

My volunteer role includes escorting delegates and digniteries on and off shuttle busses, as well as driving them around on a golf cart. This is mainly at the start and finish of each session.

My goal as a Special Delegate is to attend as many breakfasts, lunches, and late night dinners with the NJGOP and GOP as possible. I may not even get onto the convention floor and I do not vote, but I do get to watch sessions in a special viewing area, when I am not doing my volunteer assignment. (A special Delegate has no duties per se but has earned the right to attend various affairs by contributing a minimum amount of money to the political party.)

Ed,

See if your personal journey can include asking the President why he's done such a sh***y job on the economy.

Ok folks. Now ease up. I dont find Ed May that much fun on this board as is well known. I think he was petulant and childish in his loss in the TC race. That being said cut the man some slack. No matter what your politics you have to admire someone that committed to his cause. It is clearly the WRONG cause, but that should not diminish the validity and the honor in following what you believe.

MHD there is as much slime at the DNC.

Spare-0 Bush cant decide why we went in in the first place never mind when we are getting out so don't hold your breath. For your brothers sake I hope it is soon.

And sbenois.. if you think that Ed May is getting anywhere near President Bush in such a way as to even pose the question, I am fairly sure the answer would sicken you.

So cut Ed some slack. He is participating. How many of us do anything more than and moan and if we aren't busy that day vote? He is active and believes in what he is doing. There is honor in that.

Dearest Eduardo,

I asked a rather legitimate question. I'd like a rather legitimate answer. I want to know why this president is the first in my memory to not actively work towards talking up the economy and taking concrete steps to improve it. The only thing he ever did was to push through a tax cut and sit back and hope that it worked. The evidence that it did is rather murky. Yet it's the only thing he ever talks about related to the economy.

By contrast, in 1998, when the Asian monetary crisis hit, Clinton was right there trying to calm the markets. Prior to that, he made sure that he hired a Treasury Secretary who was highly respected both on Wall Street and throughout the global banking system. Bush hired a former Yankee who immediately after taking office roiled the markets and then went on to write a book about Bush.

I think you ought to answer this question Ed. I want to know vey specifially what it is that the President intends to do in the next four years to create non-McDonalds jobs. Is the answer in the platform somewhere?

Wait for conservatives and republicans to make some intelligent posts on this thread.

Go for it Ed.

I really don't want to get in the mix here, but I can't help it...

I too volunteered to welcome 50,000 delegates, media and guests to NYC. I was assigned to Hotel Hospitality as a greeter and am so excited. I had my last training session yesterday and Mayor Koch showed up to speak to us on the importance showing all these people coming from all over the country how great NYC really is. Here is a little statistic he shared... 70% of the delegates and their families have NEVER been to NYC. I know that the tourism industry is still hurting since 9/11 and I think that NYC&CO are really trying to expose the delegates to everything and have the chance to do most anything they want in the 5 boroughs. From Museums and broadway shows ... baseball games and sightseeing ... walking tours of neighborhoods and parks .... shopping and dining.

Now I volunteered because I too am a Bush supporter, but I moved from TX years ago to Manhattan and it is a huge, crazy wondrous city. I truly feel there is no city in the world like it. I really hope that regardless of which candidate New Yorkers and those who commute to NYC support that people will be kind and helpful... NY has everything to gain if those 50,000 people feel welcomed and have a great experience.

Have a great time Ed! Maybe we will see eachother!

This thread is about as exciting as watching yeast rise. However, I respect the contributor's commitment to his political party and the time he will give to shuttle people around in NYC who have never been there before and who probably have preconceived notions (often negative, from what I have seen in my travels around the country) about NYC. Give them a good taste of the best we have to offer.

Then let's get that administration out of the White House and chase it back to Texas and Wyoming.

Ed,
Can we do this? I mean, are democrats allowed to have discussions with republicans - will I get in trouble or kicked out of the club, oh wait, I wouldn't join a club that would have me as a member.

Ed,

Please ask Bush why the city he's coming to is not getting a representative amount of funding for securing our port, our trains, our buildings, our airports, our houses of worship, etc.

It's an important question Ed. I hope you can get an answer. Personally, I am both mystified and outraged by it. While you're there wining and dining all of those nice delgates please remind a few that they'll be sitting in a building (MSG) that has a big bullseye on it.

One more thing Eduardo, when you do answer my questions from above, please try to avoid giving me the same old paritsan rhetoric because you know that I'm not buying it. This President has done some good things in my eyes but I am hard pressed to find a single reason to vote for in in '04. Please give me a few.

Facts and data Eduardo. Give me those and I'll listen.
